Does someone in your life believe that vaccines cause autism? Do you know where this idea came from? I’m sure you’d be shocked to find that this controversial belief can be, in part, blamed on journalists. Though journalists strive to be unbiased arbiters of the truth, their methods are not iron-clad and they sometimes fall victim to bias and ignorance.

On Feb. 1, Central Missouri Speedway came under new ownership by former racer Bob King. King has been a racer at CMS for the past 30 years and has plans to make the track a place fans look forward to going to.
“I started racing at Central Missouri Speedway about 30 years ago. I love racing and want to be around racing so to purchase this track that was up and going made sense to me,” said King.
With the sale, renovations and purchase of new equipment, the track has generated $1.2 million in costs for King.

The University of Central Missouri Fencing Club is a student organization that teaches members the principles of fencing and three distinct disciplines or types of weapons used in the sport of Olympic fencing: foil, épée and sabre. According to UCM fencing club president Garrett Abel, the club was founded in 1993. Since then, it has grown from a few consistent members to six to eight newcomers each year.

On March 25, the Muleskinner Online Manager Anthony Rey participated in a ride-along with Sergeant Davis Johnson of the University of Central Missouri Department of Public Safety. Johnson, a University of Central Missouri alumnus, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and has been with the department since 2018. The ride-along showed what being a public safety officer is like from the inside.

On April 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cos4Hope held their annual event at University of Central Missouri with many coming out to show support. The event featured mental health awareness booths, vendors, cosplay competitions and speeches made by cosplayers and the host of the event.

After being announced in July 2025, four new dining options at the University of Central Missouri are still in progress, with Sodexo officials noting that construction timelines and coordination with national brands have shaped the updated opening timeline.
“At first I thought it was planned to be done by the end of last semester [Fall 2025], but they still haven’t said anything or opened,” said freshman Allie Soderblom.

Welcome to the Muleskinner staff, Hannah Claywell! We are excited to announce that Hannah will be the new Editor in Chief here at UCM and is pursuing her master’s degree in communication. She was the Editor in Chief at Northwest Missouri State University and is also the President of the Missouri College Media Association. We are so lucky to have Hannah as a new edition to the team! ❤️🖤
