OCSO News Release:

An Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy lost his life Saturday, December 24th, when a domestic violence suspect opened fire on responding deputies from inside his residence.
Five year OCSO veteran Corporal Ray Hamilton, a member of the OCSO Special Response Team, succumbed to the shooting injury shortly after 3 p.m. at HCA Fort Walton Beach - Destin Hospital. The suspect, 43-year-old Timothy Price-Williams was hit with return fire from deputies, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury to his arm.
Deputies had been called to the townhome at 710 North Park Boulevard in reference to a report of a domestic violence battery. The victim reported Saturday morning that Price-Williams had slapped her in the face and shoved her during an argument the night before, taking away her phone so she could not call 9-1-1 for help.
When deputies went to the scene around 9 a.m. Saturday to make contact with Price-Williams, he refused to come out of the residence. A warrant was obtained and the OCSO Special Response Team was called in. Price-Williams continued to refuse to leave the home, and then shot out of a window around 12:40 p.m., striking Corporal Hamilton.
“We are devastated by the grief of losing Corporal Hamilton, a deputy who was a ray of sunshine in the OCSO, dedicated to protecting others," said Sheriff Eric Aden. "We appreciate the endless stream of words of support that have come in for his family and his co-workers as we face this heartbreaking loss of a profoundly loved and respected friend, public servant, and hero ."

OCSO News Release:

A road rage incident in Destin that escalated into a driver pointing a gun at another driver led to a Georgia man's arrest Wednesday by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
23-year old Daniel Schmidt is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
The victim says he was driving west on Emerald Coast Parkway when Schmidt cut him off and began brake checking him.
As he sped up to get around Schmidt he says Schmidt pointed a handgun at him and made aggressive movements. The victim went to a safe area and called the OCSO, describing the weapon and providing a license plate number.
A deputy spotted and detained Schmidt near his vehicle in the parking lot of a Destin hotel. The firearm was still on him.
The victim identified Schmidt as the driver and also identified the weapon.
If you encounter an aggressive driver, we recommend you don't challenge them, avoid eye contact and rude gestures, get a description of their car and license plate number if possible, and contact your nearest local law enforcement agency to report the driver.

It is going to get very cold the next few days, here are some tips to save your pipes from freezing:

Insulate pipes: Insulating your pipes with materials such as foam pipe insulation or electrical heating tape can help to keep the heat in and the cold out.

Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature during the day and night: This will help to maintain a consistent temperature in your home, which can help to prevent pipes from freezing.

Keep cabinet doors open: This allows warm air to circulate around the pipes and can help to prevent freezing.

Allow a slow drip from faucets: This can help to prevent pipes from freezing by keeping a small amount of water moving through the pipes.

Seal air leaks: Caulk or weatherstrip around windows and doors to keep cold air out and warm air in.

Keep the garage door closed: If you have water pipes in your garage, make sure to keep the garage door closed during a hard freeze to help keep the pipes warm.

Disconnect and store hoses: Disconnect any hoses from outdoor faucets and store them inside to prevent freezing.

By following these tips, you can help to protect your pipes from freezing during a hard freeze.

If you have plumbing issues or broken pipes, we are here to help.
