American family comedy drama film "My Bodyguard" released. July 11, #1980 Directed by Tony Bill (his directorial debut), and written by Alan Ormsby, the film stars Chris Makepeace, Adam Baldwin (in his first film role), Matt Dillon, Martin Mull, and Ruth Gordon.
Feature film debut of Adam Baldwin, Joan Cusack, Jennifer Beals (uncredited), Dean Devlin and Paul Quandt.
This is Matt Dillon's second film after Over The Edge, and his first as a villain... but not the kind of anti-hero villain he'd play later, but an all-out jerk, intentionally despised by the audience
Became a cult classic; was played a lot on cable, and is where most fans caught it, and before the video rental boom. It was also on television many times.
The film was released the same year as Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980). In the background of the bedroom in the hotel, there is a poster of C3PO and R2-D2 from Star Wars. Cliff plays with an X-Wing figurine in his father's office, as well.
