Welcome to Part 1 of this 3-part cortisol series—requested by a brilliant friend + follower who asked me to talk about cortisol.

👉 Cortisol is your body’s main stress hormone. It’s released by your adrenal glands and helps regulate:
• Your stress response
• Blood pressure
• Blood sugar
• Inflammation
• Your circadian rhythm (a.k.a. sleep/wake cycle)

We need it. But as we age, things change:
✅ Chronic stress stacks up
✅ Estrogen and progesterone (which help buffer cortisol) decline
✅ Sleep gets messier
✅ Inflammation becomes more common

The result? Your once-steady cortisol rhythm starts to act like it’s had three double espressos and no boundaries.

✨ You’re not more dramatic. Your biology is just shifting.

👉 Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll dive into what cortisol looks like in perimenopause—and why it feels like your body is staging a full-on rebellion.

Feel like alcohol’s turned on you lately?

Like one drink wrecks your sleep, wrecks your mood, and leaves you googling “detox” at 3am?

You’re not broken. You’re in perimenopause.
And here’s why alcohol suddenly feels like the worst decision ever:

⚠️ Your liver slows down with age — so alcohol stays in your system longer and feels more toxic.
⚠️ You have less body water, so alcohol hits harder (yes, it’s basic biology—not just aging drama).
⚠️ Hormones are swinging — and alcohol spikes estrogen, then crashes it, making hot flashes, anxiety, and mood swings worse.
⚠️ It increases inflammation, and your body is already dealing with a chronic, low-grade inflammatory state in midlife.
⚠️ It screws with your sleep—less REM, more overheating, more 3am existential crises.
⚠️ And yes—the long-term risks go up: breast cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis. Especially when estrogen takes a nosedive.

So when we’re told to limit alcohol, it’s not because we’re boring or old or can’t hang.

It’s because our bodies are literally changing the way they metabolize and respond to it.

No shame. No pressure.
Just good info so you can make choices that actually work for you now.

Your jeans didn’t shrink.
Your body is responding to low estrogen — and trying to help you.

During perimenopause, as estrogen drops, your body flips into backup mode. It starts converting testosterone into estrogen using an enzyme called aromatase.

And guess where aromatase lives?
In your fat tissue — especially around your belly.

So your body intentionally stores belly fat to give itself the tools to make more estrogen.
Not sabotage. Survival.

But — if your testosterone is also low? There’s nothing to convert.
Cue the chaos.

👉 Get your hormones checked. Especially your testosterone.
Because when you understand what’s really going on, everything starts to make more sense.

🔥 BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME 🔥
Yeah… it’s a thing. And it suuucks.

I’ve had Burning Mouth Syndrome for over 7 YEARS 😩

At first? I was obsessed. Like, couldn’t think of anything else obsessed. It was insane.

Now? I’ve adapted. (Kinda.) Still wish it would fuggin’ disappear, though.

Here’s the kicker: BMS is common in perimenopause and menopause. It can feel like burning, tingling, or just constant irritation in your mouth or tongue. Hormonal shifts strike again!

Hormones, baby. Just out here torching us from the inside out. 💃

🧠 Did you know about this?
👅 Do you have it?
💬 Let’s talk about the weird stuff NO ONE warned us about.

Check it out, my friends...

Hey friends,

I’m back. 💛 I took some time away from offering the Safe & Sound Protocol because, truthfully, I needed space to figure out where my heart was pulling me. But no matter how far I stepped back, I kept coming back to this work—and to the people it’s helped (and could help).

Over the past year, I’ve been on my own healing journey, and one thing has become so clear: resetting the nervous system isn’t something you can always talk your way through. Sometimes, we need something deeper, something gentler to help us feel steady again.

As I’ve been reflecting on this and working with others navigating chronic stress, I realized how much this protocol can be a game-changer. So here I am, ready to share it again.

I’ve got a fresh new website launching tomorrow (yay!), but for now, I just wanted to say—if this speaks to you, I’m here.

Alright...baby girl turned 14, and she's doing a bowling birthday party and sleepover. I am not allowed to sit with her, bowl, or look at her.

So, I sit at a table on my own and remember the days she wanted me around. And...drink my Strongbow knowing this one fu***ng drink will ruin my sleep tonight.

Worth it? Have you found alcohol severely impacts your sleep as you age? Cuz I sure have.

Just me or you too??

I'm seeing a Naturopathic Doctor today to talk all things cortisol (stress hormone) and perimenopause. I'm going to create a document of questions to ask - open to suggestions!

What should we be asking professionals when it comes to discussing perimenopause and menopause?

I'm starting a course to help me figure out my finances AND learn how to make money from knowing more about investing and other stuff. What...I don't know yet.

My question is...does talking about money or learning about investing scare you as much as it does me??

I can't wait to share more on this course I'm starting TOMORROW. But for now...tell me I'm not alone in hating talking about money (or lack thereof).

So, party people...what are your symptoms of perimeno or meno? Here are JUST A FEW of what I've gone through the past few years - with it significantly getting worse every month. Remember...I'm not a professional in this area, I am ONLY telling you what is going on with me and what has helped and is helping me navigate through this sh*tshow.

Weight gain
RIDICULOUS PERIODS (I have an IUD now - Strongly recommend)
Chronic migraines
Night sweats
Daytime hot flashes (those are new and they're awful)
Overall bitchiness - don't f**k with me some days, I'll rip your throat out
Belly fat (I CANNOT GET RID OF THIS S**T)
Dry skin (that might me my Hashimoto's though)
Joint pain
Alcohol severely impacts my sleep
Sh*tty sleep (hello, insomnia)

Those are my big, big complaints. What about you?

AND...what are you doing to feel better? I've JUST started on some estrogen (one week in) so I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

Come, commiserate with me. Whatchoo got?

Let's do this!

I'm shifting things a bit on this page. It's called Laugh Lines Lifestyle cuz aging and laugh lines are a thing. But I'm not going quietly. As I navigate perimenopause, life in my 40s+, I want a place to share what I'm learning, how things are shifting, and so on.

I don't plan on hocking a bunch of stuff, but I'm going to share things as I learn things. Fair?

So, it'll be all things women, perimenopausal women, finding yourself women, info on fitness for perimenopause, skincare, FINANCES, and finding yourself again.

I hope you'll stay and play! But if not...that's ok! I love ya, good luck out there!

I hope to provide some insight and let you know you're not alone.

First and foremost...perimenopause b***s ARE AMAZING! That may be the only good thing, but I'll take em! Lol

Welcome!

Who the heck am I? Good question. After years of trying to fit the corporate and educational mold, I broke out, started my own fitness franchise company, worked ridiculously long hours, cried oceans of tears and laughed until my abs went into debilitating spasms. I found my purpose in life: to be a mother AND to motivate and inspire families to move their bodies.
