From tribal chieftain to high school graduate at 68

"I aspired to pursue education as a beacon of guidance for my tribe. No riches, no treasures, can ever rival the wealth that knowledge and learning bestow."
- Chieftain Bartolome Oafallas

Chieftain Bartolome Oafallas, affectionately known as "Pay Bart" among his people, stood as one of the revered Aeta tribal leaders. At the age of 68, he achieved a remarkable milestone by obtaining his high school diploma through the DepEd’s Alternative Learning System. His motivation stemmed from a deep desire to set a shining example for his tribe, igniting a passion for education among his fellow tribal members.

Pay Bart became a vital partner in the Yabá Scholarship Program, extending his support particularly during its first year when 10 deserving scholars were welcomed into the program. His dedication to education and his commitment to nurturing future generations exemplify the transformative power of lifelong learning.

"Christmas Dreams: 5 Years of Inspiring Journeys with Yaba Scholars"

We marked our 5th year at the Yaba Scholarship Program with a heartwarming early Christmas gathering on December 3. The event brought together Yaba Scholars, their families, tribal leaders, and our esteemed founder, Ms. Gigi Tibi, along with her family.
During the program, inspiring stories of our scholars were shared; stories that spoke of resilience, determination, and a profound wisdom that defied their years. Each story showcased the transformative power of education and the unwavering support of our community.
Witnessing the remarkable progress of these scholars and envisioning the bright futures awaiting them filled us with awe and respect. Their journeys symbolize more than just academic achievements; they represent the spirit of overcoming obstacles, seizing opportunities, and making positive impacts in their communities.
As we embark on another year of empowering education and nurturing potential, we carry with us the lessons and inspiration from this gathering. Together, we continue to create a brighter tomorrow for these young minds and for the world they will one day lead.

"Let's celebrate the season of love and giving!"

The Yaba Scholars have once again gathered to spend time together and share in celebrating the yuletide season. During this season of love, we embrace each other's differences and unite as one happy community that feels the needs of everyone. We focus on the development and learning of these scholars, making them strong and resilient in facing the difficulties of the world. Instead of being overwhelmed by the chaos of the world, they become resilient and persevere, giving them a brighter future to hold onto their dreams. With patience and the gift of sharing, they generously share what they have learned with the community. This joyous celebration marks in each scholar's heart the true meaning of giving and sharing, and it will always be remembered as they continue to pursue their dreams.

"We believe that education is the most powerful weapon in changing the world, and we are grateful for fellow believers in the Yaba Scholarship Program. This program, headed by Ms. Gigi Tibi and her family, benefits 43 scholar students from Junior High School, Senior High School, and College in Iriga City. The program aims to help students achieve their dreams of completing their education, preparing them to contribute to the development and empowerment of the tribal community. By becoming inspirations to others, they can promote and protect their culture and beliefs while being ready to face the real world."

Yabá Scholarship Foundation, now on its 6th year, helps send Aeta students in Iriga to school. Thanks to our compassionate and committed sponsors, we now have college and high school graduates! Last December 20, we gathered to celebrate Christmas. While this year has been extra challenging for most of us, we carried on and focused on what makes us grateful.

Dios mabalos for believing in that we have a fighting chance in the future, too!

Mapagpalang Pasko sa ating lahat!
