Dear readers,
In the last days of July, we commemorate the revolutionary political prisoners who fell during the 1996 Death Fast resistance, on the 30th anniversary of their martyrdoms. This resistance is particularly important because it was one of the rare moments in the history of the struggle for revolution and socialism in the lands of Anatolia, because all revolutionary forces were united and actually set up a broad front against the attack of imperialism and oligarchy. In this spirit of unity, despite the ideological and political diferencies between them, they succeeded to achieve a victory.
Today, actually in the last few years, the revolutionary political prisoners, and the broader left-wing movement in Turkey, is facing a new and major attack against it's physyical exsitance and ideological presence in all spehres of life. And yet again the main target of the NATO's puppet fascist oligarchy are the revolutionary political prisoners. Since around 2021 the fascist oligarchy in Turkey started to gradually open new types of prisons wtih letter designations as S, R, and Y. These prisons are well documented as of now, but if we have to put it simple and shorter, they are agravating the isolation and are specially build to intesify the effects of solitary confintment on the humans kept as captives in them. The fascist oligarchy of course got these new techniques from it's imperialists masters and NATO's "strategists" and "advisors". Gradually by using force some political prisoners were forcibly transffered to these prisons. Of course their responce to this attack was resistance.
Since 1st May 2023 until 9th July 2026, 42 revolutionary political prisoners transffered to so-called "high-security prisons", known as "well-type prisons" in Turkey, achieved victories by resisting with hunger strikes and death fasts. Their primary demand was to be transffered from these type of prisons to non-isolation type prisons. Alongside this demand, in the last year revolutionaries are also resisting against the "identification cards" or badges that designates them as "criminals", which are another "measure" specially designed for the revolutionaries held captives in the dungeons of the fascist oligarchy. One of these prisonsers was Gürkan Türkoğlu.
On the 265th day of their Hunger Strike resistance Gürkan Türkoğlu and his 2 comrades, were forcibly transffered to a hospital in the sounthern city of Antalya. There Gürkan Türkoğlu was brutally tortured by agents of the political police as part of forced medical intervention, due to severe injuries he fell in coma. After 76 days of struggle for his life, Gürkan Türkoğlu fell martyr on 5th July 2026 at this same hospital in Antalya. Nevertless Gürkan and his comrades' demand to be transffered to a non-isolation type prison was met. Gürkan achieved the victory with his death thus becoming the first revoluotionary to fell martyr in the resistance against the new isolation prisons. Currently 6 another revolutionary political prisoners in different "well-type prisons" acrross Turkey, as their primary demands remain the same.
At the end, what we can say, is that revolutionary political prisoners today, may be more than ever need the unity and a formation of a broad front of the popular forces, so that these NATO-led policies of isolation and cripling of the humans, not to be enforced on all of us, in one or another form.
