Yesterday, we said our last goodbyes to a remarkable leader, Dr. Nondumiso.
As we bid farewell, we take comfort in the knowledge that her legacy will live on.

Her contributions to our city as Mayor will always be remembered, and her impact will continue to inspire us as young people.

May her family, friends, and colleagues find strength in the memories of her tireless work and commitment to making our city a better place.

Today, we commemorate Youth Day, a significant milestone in South Africa's history. While our struggles may differ from those of 1976, we face unique challenges. One of our biggest challenges is unemployment and it is a pressing issue in our country. The official unemployment rate in South Africa, according to Statistics South Africa, was 32.9% in the first quarter of 2025. This represents a 1.0 percentage point increase compared to the 31.9% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Statistics South Africa. The expanded unemployment rate, which includes discouraged job seekers, remained unchanged at 41.9% between Q3 and Q4 of 2024, according to Statistics South Africa.

We urge young people to get involved:
- Explore business opportunities
- Engage in politics and shape society
- Apply for jobs, but also consider entrepreneurship

The government institutions below provide funding and support for youth-owned businesses such as:
- Economic Development
- Office of the Premier
- Nyda
- Sefda
- NEF
