📢 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: NMBM EMERGING FARMER SUPPORT PROGRAMME 🌱🚜

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Urban Agriculture Sub-Directorate invites emerging farmers and agro-processors within the Metro to apply for the Emerging Farmer Support Programme.

The programme is aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural enterprises that contribute towards poverty alleviation, economic growth, and job creation.

🌾 PROGRAMME FOCUS AREAS
• Vegetable Production
• Livestock Production

✅ SUPPORT AVAILABLE
Approved applicants may qualify for:
• Production inputs
• Working equipment
• Agro-processing equipment
• Infrastructure development support

📌 QUALIFYING CRITERIA
Applicants must:
• Be operational
• Operate within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro
• Provide proof of land access or ownership (Lease Agreement / Permit / Title Deed)
• Be a registered entity
• Submit certified copies of IDs not older than 3 months
• Operate within an area designated for farming

Successful applicants will be required to sign an agreement with the NMBM confirming receipt of support provided, as well as participation in a compulsory mentoring and monitoring programme.

Standard Bank has opened applications for the 2026 Kasi SME National Pitch Challenge, and if you’re running a township business, this is worth your attention.

The competition runs provincially first. Ten entrepreneurs per province get shortlisted to pitch.

The provincial winner takes home R50,000, with runners-up each receiving R10,000.

Nine provincial winners and one runner-up then advance to the national final, where the grand prize is R1 million.

Before the national final, finalists attend a pitching masterclass covering business models, storytelling, and presentation. So even the preparation process is useful.

To qualify, your business needs to be at least 51% Black-owned, operating within a township, registered with CIPC, and trading for at least 2 years. Annual revenue must be under R50 million. You’ll also need a valid tax certificate and BBBEE certificate or affidavit.

Applications for the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Economics Winter School are now open. This week-long training programme gives postgraduate Economic students access to international best thinking on emerging economic research topics from local and international speakers.

The Economics Winter School will take place from 29 June at the SARB’s Head Office, and will allow participants to showcase their skills and expose them to central banking. Participation and performance will be monitored for potential inclusion in the SARB internship selection processes.
