Koti (or Kothi: Mansion) locality in Hyderabad’s Sultan Bazar once housed the residence of James Achilles Kirkpatrick, built in Victorian and Corinthian styles (Source: Wikipedia). The mansion-complex now houses the Telangana Mahila Vishwavidyalayam, previously the Osmania University College for Women. The locality is also famous for its Ophthalmologists and spectacle shops. Last month, I went there to get my eyes checked and buy new glasses. The locality has a mini-Gujarati colony. As I was there, I wanted to experience some Gujarati food. By the time I was done at the opthalmologist, lunchtime was over. The Gujarati restaurants there serve only till 2-3 PM. While hunting for food, I came across this desi gym, Hanuman Vyam Shala. I was happy to find this place. It is an excellent initiative by the trust that manages it. There are many young people who are interested, but cannot afford expensive gyms. The government should open more gyms like this instead of opening wine shops at every nook and corner of Hyderabad.
