🎙️ Props Due: Rakim
With all due respect — Rakim changed the entire language of hip-hop.
When most emcees were rocking party rhymes and call-and-response records, Rakim came in with a new kind of seriousness — a meditative, lyrical, almost spiritual flow.
He introduced complex internal rhymes, a calm delivery, and an introspective tone that made rap feel intellectual.
Partnered with Eric B., Rakim’s debut album Paid in Full (1987) set the blueprint for lyricism in hip-hop — influencing everyone from Nas and Jay-Z to Kendrick Lamar.
Even decades later, his records are still sampled and licensed in film, TV, and commercials — proof that staying true to artistry can outlast any trend.
✊🏾 Respect is due — Rakim, the God MC.
