NO #487 UPDATE TODAY EXCEPT FOR AN ESTIMATE OF HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS INFLICTED ON MY RV.
Not too much to report today. Mark Fletcher and I took the last of the valuables out of #487. Mark, who has experience doing classic car appraisals, estimated all the costs including the damaged exhaust system, the exhaust manifolds, the transmission issue that started the problem, addressing the front end issues and the power steering, replacing the air conditioning system that was stolen, and the damage to the cabinets. The total is $9,600. and that doesn’t include the more than $6,000 of personal possessions, mostly the two Nikon DSLRs and the Cannon digital camcorder that will not be recovered.
I want to note and thank those who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign set up by Keith Lehmann and Amy Gilroy. It’s now over $6,000. As I have 5,000 Facebook friends and followers and if 10% (500 people) contribute $10—the equivalent of two cups of coffee at Starbucks—we will reach and surpass the $10,000 campaign goal. So if you can contribute, here’s a direct link to the campaign.

This will be the final time I mention the GoFundMe campaign here directly. I will continue to post updates on #487’s restoration as it seems that some of you are following its progress. I want to get it back to the way it looked when I bought it five years ago, as in this video.

I’m hoping to start work on #487 this week and although Mark thinks I’m crazy, I believe that I can get everything essential done by November 1. That is if I can find a shop to handle the mechanical issues so I will need to tow it just once. So finding a suitable shop to handle the repairs is now a top priority.
Keith changed the header image for the GoFundMe campaign from the video tour from just after I bought #487 to my Facebook inset photo. That photo is one of my favorites, a picture of Max and me on a trip up to the mountain town of Idyllwild in October 2020, just before Max passed in January 2021 at the height of the COVID pandemic.
Of everything that’s happened, the loss of Savannah and Max’s remains that bothers me the most. That this criminal could callously throw away their remains tells me that he has no heart, no soul. I want to think that there is a special place in Hell awaiting him.
So again, let me thank everyone who has contributed to the GoFundMe. Your kindness is greatly appreciated more than you’ll ever know.
