Like thousands of others, Aoife's loved and cherished gay family members are her major motivation to vote. Her particular experience as a wedding photographer has meant that she's seen and captured countless moments of joy and delight among the families and friends who've celebrated the marriages she's worked at. She wants to share in some of those moments herself and appeals for others to join her in voting yes and giving that opportunity to her brothers.

"James Doorley of the NYCI said: “Young people are overwhelmingly in favour of the referendum, but if they are not registered, they can’t vote, and it could have a big impact on the result so it’s very important that they participate.”

Enticing them to vote in favour is Ireland’s ‘Mammy-in-chief’, Agnes Brown. In a video directed by Lenny Abrahamson, the alter ego of Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll explains her reasons for why she will vote yes."

Most online comment supports passing the marriage equality referendum, but many younger people are not registered to vote,

On May 22nd, the polling stations will open at 7am and be open though till 10pm. That is 15 hours the polling stations will be open for. You can easily find 15 minutes to go vote.

You will be handed two piece of paper, a white one and a green one. The green paper will deal with the Presidential referendum on dropping the age from 35 to 21. The white paper will deal with the Marriage Equality referendum and this will be the Third-Fourth Amendment to the Constitution.

The amendment won't be on the paper on the day, but it is what we want to include 17 new words to the Constitution which are:

“Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.”

You will have the chance to vote Yes or No on it. You will do this marking the box with an X. Anything less but an X will consider your vote to be spoiled. If your vote is spoiled with will not be counted and in a referendum, every vote will count.

So don't put a tick in the box. Don’t put an X in one box and then a tick in the other. Don’t draw a line between the boxes. Don't put your name on the ballot paper. Don't spoil your vote.

Mark it with an X, make sure your voice is heard on the 22nd of May and make sure you make history.
