SCACITY OF FOOD & NIGERIAN
1. Food is expensive in the market
2. You wish food is cheap.
Yet
1. You see everyone practicing farming as poor people.
2. Your compound is too neat for planting. You concrete all your compound not even a flower or fruit tree is planted.
3. You hardly rear chicken, rabbit, fish, goat or even snail.
4. Ordinary vegetable plantation, you could not plant in your compound, yet you are complaining.
5. You are too big to plant 4% of what you eat in a whole year
6. Almost every Nigerian is praying to have a white collar Job. Looking at the poor to plant what you will eat.
7. You are fighting for minimum wage and expecting the Farmer to sell his Own product cheaply.
NOTE:
What was planted last year was what we are eating now.
If you don't plant this year there will be nothing to eat next year, or we experience INFLATION at it's peak.
That you live in the Town and a well developed area is not a barrier as a matter of fact, planting what you don't eat is still not a sin. You can do that to add to your income.
Nigeria is blessed with a fertile land, there is absolutely nothing planted in Nigeria that will not grow.
My humble advice:-
1. Please, let every household try to plant/grow 10% to 20% of what the eat.
2. we should plant fruit tree on our street and compound like mango, orange, pear, guava, plantain, pawpaw, coconut etc
3. Our backyard can house vegetables. if already concreted, you can introduce sand on it or in a tyre or sack to plant. just make sure you produce the vegetable you consume.
4. We can rear local or/and agric chicken within our compound or rabbit if you do eat it. Government should make provision for buying in bulk from the farmers and resell to the public. This way the farmers will get More money and be encouraged.
5. The public and family of the farmers should not see them and their work as work meant for the less privileged.but rather be encouraged to do more.
6. Let every household try to grow at least 20% of what they eat. That is, everyone should grow at least 20% of their food.
7. All Agricultural or related student in the university, should be given aleast 2 to 4 plot of farming land yearly for practicals.
8. Each state government should invest in agric machines. Each state can buy 1200 tractors and it's related farm equipment which can be given out to farmers association to manage after proper training, that is a better palliative.
9. Farm settlement should be created by state government for crop farmers different from animal husbandary farmer's location.
10. Each state should enact law that prohibit open rearing of animal without confinement by the farm.
11. Each state government should support farmer with soft loan through farmer's registered association.
12. Each state government should create farm produce marketing board to regulate purchase of farm produce from farmers during harvest to encourage farmer.
A lot can be done regarding planting this year and time.
The increase and high cost of living experience this year is going to be a tip of the iceberg, of nothing is done.
