Meet the Judge: Alison Lai 🏅
We're shining a well-deserved spotlight on one of our longest-serving judges, Alison Lai! For nearly 10 years, Alison has brought her expertise to the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards. As the current CEO of Cancer Council Tasmania, and a lifelong volunteer, her passion for community work is simply unmatched. ✨
Alison views the opportunity to be a judge as a "privilege." Every year, she looks forward to gaining "a unique insight into the hard-work and community spirit that is alive and well across Tasmania." She believes it's incredibly important to have avenues to showcase the incredible work happening behind the scenes, highlighting the people who are the "backbone (and heartbeat) of it all, that otherwise would go unnoticed."
She describes the judging experience as a beautiful challenge. It’s beautiful because every nomination provides a window into the commitment of people across the state. The challenge, she says, is when every single nomination is worthy of recognition, making it tough to choose a shortlist!
What makes a nomination truly impactful for Alison? She looks for a 'can-do' attitude. These are the nominees who aren't intimidated by the size or complexity of an issue, but instead apply "some serious grit and determination to get an initiative or project up and running." 💡
Alison's message to everyone out there is: “A nomination is a simple and meaningful gesture to show someone how much you appreciate and value what they're doing for others."
