Now, through the late afternoon of February 22nd at Central Illinois' On-Line Broadcast Museum, dougquick.com, it's all about local TV. Among the videos is one central Illinois classic kid's show archived better than any other, "Captain Jinx and Salty Sam" from WEEK, Peoria. Back in the day, every station had a kids' show. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, no one has video recordings of the local shows at WICS, WTVP(WAND), or WCIA. WCIA would be the only possibility, but I've never seen a video. You can see a recent day profile hosted by Chuck Collins of Channel 25, WEEK-TV.

It's no secret that my favorite radio station from the 1960s into the very early 1970s was KXOK, AM630, St. Louis. This week, just in time for Halloween, Central Illinois' On-Line Broadcast Museum, dougquick.com, presents a rare video(actually film-synced with the actual radio broadcast) of the KXOK Monster Rally from 1964. It stars Johnny Rabbit and Bruno J. Grunyon (the evening's very popular DJ and his fictitious partner Bruno). Also, watch a 1968 short film of the KXOK studio and Johnny Rabbit(real name Don Pietromonaco) in action while the song "Midnight Confessions" plays. See you at the Museum!

This week at Central Illinois' On-Line Broadcast Museum, dougquick.com, I'll show you examples of two more of ABC's "Hits and Misses." The list includes another example of a single-father sitcom produced by the guy who would bring "Welcome Back Kotter" to TV, James Komack. It starred Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz. Also, "Destry," an hour-long drama/comedy/western from 1964. "Blazing Saddles" it IS NOT. Check them out at the Museum this week through the evening of Saturday, November 2nd.
