I am sure those of you who have been around for a minute remember that I originally created SoapboxX as an advocacy platform, but it lacked a clear niche and a true mission.
At 39, I went to college to earn my communication degrees, planning to become a speechwriter for leaders I believed in. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I saw the stark reality of the literacy gap—and reflected on my own journey with formal writing. My professors didn't give up on me; they met me with deep empathy, rigorous critique, and endless notes until I mastered my craft. I realized my true purpose wasn't writing speeches for administrations—it was passing that gift down to kids who, like me, needed it.
The universe did her thing and a TFA recruiter found me, I signed up, trained, and was hired to teach at my first school in 2021. I fell deeply in love with teaching 5th grade. By age 10, children have spent half a decade absorbing habits (good and bad). So they were both flourishing and falling behind, but also young, resilient, and ready to rewrite their story.
SoapboxX exists because real love demands real excellence. When you wrap our children in radical empathy, time-tested instructional roots, and a village that refuses to let them fail, multi-year gaps close, habits shift, and they reclaim the power of their own voice.
