Could this mark the beginning of a seismic shift in SEO?

It was thought that Google terminated their $83 million contract with Appen in favor of another supplier.

But a different situation emerges when you piece two and two.

Search engine evaluators (raters) significantly influence the quality of search results, and thus SEO.

What if Google is gradually eliminating the role of raters?

At this year's MozCon 2023, Tom Anthony proposed a theory (https://lnkd.in/dSQPwNEe) that with the advent of GPT and AI, SEO is transitioning into an era focused more on "Context" as opposed to relying on the knowledge graph and Schema markup for content classification.

Schema markup employs around 14,000 data points for content classification, but the emerging GPT-first approach could enable Google to utilize a whopping 6,000,000 data points for the same purpose... This is a game-changing development.

In the event of the adoption of the GPT-first strategy many traditional SEO tactics (such as on-page SEO and keyword density) will become redundant.

If this theory holds water, the search horizon could be on the brink of some major changes (alongside SGE of course), and they might arrive sooner than we think.

Outside of the work that scientists working on cancer, life saving drugs and vaccines, high level tech pros (not your run of the mill software engineer or programmer), entrepreneurs working on ideas that have the potential to change the world or at least amount to something in the long run and doctors saving lives; very little of what accountants, marketers (myself included), finance people, tradesmen etc do means much.

We as a society have made "hard work" the mantra to live by, First one in and last one out seems to have become a desirable, promotion worthy practice adopted by anyone wanting to win the race.

Little do most people realize that the very jobs they adore will replace them the month they drop dead or that their so called "hard work" doesn't mean 💩 in the grand scheme of things.

Spoiling their health, sacrificing their family life and hobbies and giving up opportunties to explore the world for peanuts.,not even a guarantee that they will retire young and hope to enjoy with a good chunk of money...

Modern slaves love their chains, think too highly of themselves and growl like a rabid dog at anyone who seems to point out the problem or even at the mere suggestion that there's something wrong with all of this...

Each day, we inch closer to AGI or Artificial General intelligence and the end of our careers, lives, knowledge, and expertise as we know it and closer to a world governed primarily by AI in a scenario closely resembling Steven Spielberg's A.If we're looking at the worst-case scenario, I - the movie, Matrix, and perhaps even Terminator

The worst part is there is little we can do about it. Nothing's in our hands except hoping for the best and maybe retiring with a couple million in the bank and passive income sources before we are all rendered redundant.

Oh, you will upskill/change career and become a software engineer/ data scientist, etc, so you can stay relevant when $hit hits the fan, and AGI upends us full throttle?
