Another senior has been killed on San Francisco’s streets by a driver, the third pedestrian death in less than a month. Seniors are five times more likely to die in a pedestrian collision. Fell is a dangerous, unforgiving street that acts more like a highway.

A man died late Wednesday night after being struck by a car and killed in the Panhandle neighborhood of San Francisco, police said Thursday. A car hit the pedestrian at 5:22 p.m. at the intersection of Fell and Baker streets, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak, a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Dep...

Gus Vardakastanis, the beloved grocer, was walking overnight on Jerrold Avenue—a high-injury corridor in the Bayview—when he was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

“Our community feels this loss acutely and our hearts are broken for this beautiful family.”

The grocer is part of the family behind three popular San Francisco markets.

Today, Human Streets launches what we hope will be a continuous series by filmmaker Kristin Tieche and photographer Adrienne Johnson on the issues facing who . We call it Women Just Want to Be Safe.

Our first video tells the story of Angela May Chen, who was doored in an unprotected lane on the Embarcadero. Our city leaders should listen to Angela and urgently build the infrastructure we need to keep everyone safe in San Francisco.

Following two protests on Valencia Street by bike activists, Supervisors Hillary Ronen and Jeff Sheehy would both like the SFMTA to study putting in protected bike lanes on the popular bike corridor.

“I’m supportive of protected bike lanes on Valencia Street,” said Ronen.

"Every serves as a reminder to the entire community that safety is not to be taken for granted, that we all have a duty to participate in safety regardless of our choice of means of transportation, and that the consequences of crashes are sometimes the tragic loss of life.”

Ghost bikes are here to stay, for now.
