Mid Season Recap QB's!!!!!
Week 8 is here in the NFL and needless to say we have had some crazy ups and downs for players and teams. In the actual NFL we have 0 undefeated teams as of week 6 and the Eagles and 49ers went down to lesser opponents. And those same kind of surprises have mirrored in Fantasy football as well. To simply touch on some of the biggest surprises we’ve had I’ve got the Rams offense providing fantasy points galore (Except Matt Stafford for some reason), Rookies showing out, and injuries cursing some top talent in the first half of the fantasy season.
QB’s go as predicted - The top 3 quarterbacks according to all fantasy football “experts” preseason were Mahomes, Hurts, and Allen in some order. They are within 7 points of each other at the top and are the only 3 quarterbacks over 150 fantasy points.
QB Surprises … to this point - To highlight here we have the good (Tua QB5, Purdy QB9, Russ QB10) and the bad (Burrow QB26, Geno QB22, Dak QB20).
THE GOOD* - Tua has been pretty consistent against lesser defenses but has struggled with good teams but it’s hard to consider sitting him for anyone but I will be debating it this week and against top defenses the rest of season. Purdy is a guy most people claimed off waivers at one point and hopefully he is a guy you’ve been able to play him in place of some of those bad guys stated earlier. Finally after his worst season ever we have seen Russ working as the sous chef currently, he is cooking but not to perfection for his team to be successful but he is cooking some fantasy numbers. Russ is the QB 10 thanks to 3 weeks he was a QB6 and QB3 also he had a QB13 week, so like Purdy he is a guy you probably claimed off waivers and have been able to maybe plug in to help.
THE BAD* - This is painful to write as a Bengals fan myself but Burrow has been dreadful with only 1 top 10 finish, and 5 weeks as a QB14 or worse which means he has not been startable. His calf injury definitely hampered his first couple weeks and since week 4 he is averaging 70% completion percent, and he is targeting Jamar often which should equate to better fantasy days to come. Burrow is a potential trade target to me. Geno Smith is an interesting candidate in the bad because he wasn’t a top 10 projected guy but after the surprise season he had last year people were going to draft Geno instead of drafting a QB early and hope he replicated last year. Unfortunately he has not lived up to that and is nothing more than a streamer candidate to me, the main thing in Seattle is I think they are putting Geno in spots to not lose them the game by making it a defense and running game. Geno has potential any week with his weapons but again unless he improves quick he is a QB2 and streamer only. Dak Prescott has a new OC and you can tell turnovers have been stressed there. Dak is a QB20 and has 1 top week where he finished as the QB1 but they rest of the season he is averaging QB 21. Dallas’ defense has given the Boys some big leads where the stars of the offense weren’t needed at all, so Dak is going to be very much game script dependent and they have all of their division games left so should have more opportunities.
