The Artichoke is the culture mag of Winters College at York University.

Combining articles on majors, as well as entertainment, lifestyle, and student health. ARTICHOKE was conceived as the brainchild of three students from Winters College belonging to the English program, YSDN, and visual arts. Well nurtured after conception by Winters Council and its constituents, it is heading into its third year of existence! This year the Artichoke is under new leadership, and ou

Come and celebrate with us as we unveil our new Issue of Artichoke! This issue we talked about starting new chapters, taking leaps of faith, discovering oneself and so much more.

We will be gathering on Thursday, November 20th, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the Winters JCR (012G). Admission is free, and there will be plenty of complimentary drinks and snacks, along with copies for sale and fun activities. Drop in to pick up a copy of Artichoke, and meet the contributors and creative team behind the magazine—we look forward to meeting you!

Come and celebrate with us as we unveil our new Issue of Artichoke! This issue we talked about starting new chapters, taking leaps of faith, discovering oneself and so much more.

Submissions for Artichoke Issue 2: “Rumour Has It” are now open!

As we approach the holidays, stories seem to weave themselves—from the tall tales of the spooky season to the grand narratives of cold winter months.

We are looking for submissions telling stories that are shared by fireside, locked behind closed doors, or passed down from generation to generation.

Submissions do not need to adhere to this theme, but we highly encourage them!

The link to submit is in our bio and the deadline to submit is Friday, November 21st. We look forward to seeing your submissions!

ISSUE 1: TREKKING THE UNCHARTED IS OFFICIALLY OUT!

We’re so excited to officially launch the first issue of Artichoke for the 2025-2026 year! We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it all together for you. We’d like to thank our amazing designers, writers, and editors for their hard work and dedication.

You can find Issue 1 through our bio or at the Winters College Council website!

We will also be printing copies of the magazine! If you’d like to get a physical copy, you can preorder one through the form in our bio.

Submissions for Artichoke Issue 1: “Trekking the Uncharted” are now open!

As we come back to campus (or enter it for the first time), we start to discover and challenge ourselves, stepping out of our comfort zones and into the unknown: the Uncharted.

We are looking for submissions that delve into these new beginnings and unfamiliar people and places—things that just about everyone experiences each year, but nobody can quite say out loud.

Submissions do not need to adhere to this theme, but we highly encourage them!
