Preparation is key! 🔑

Before the event even starts:

✔️ We plan the shot list
✔️ Choose the music
✔️ Create the graphics
✔️ Figure out the branding

Once my team transfers all the footage to my computer, I start editing.
I can edit a highlight reel in less than 2 hours thanks to my 10+ years of editing experience. Depending on the event schedule, I'll even try to do the edit early backstage, during a lunch break, or squeeze it in when the audience is busy with an activity.

Anyone else a nerd like me and loves seeing behind-the-scenes set ups?!

I’ve been practicing my cinematography for podcasts and my favorite lighting technique so far has been CROSS-KEY lighting–where the 2 lights in the setup are placed at an angle to the side and above the subjects.

Depending on what’s most flattering on a subject’s face, I like to either do Rembrandt lighting (shadow on the far side from the light creates a distinct triangle of light on the cheek) or Loop lighting (“loop” shadow that comes from the nose).

I travel to these locations so it’s been a bit of challenge to figure out what to bring and what to leave at home.

I also have been doing all the audio by myself (which I’m not an expert at) so it’s been fun learning recording and post-production audio.

Do you know the what the “good side” of your face is?

According to science, the most attractive faces are the most symmetrical. But only a small percentage of people are born with it.

The rest of us have slightly varying sides of our face where one side typically looks slightly more appealing than the other.

Knowing this, I always ask someone if they know their “good side” when I’m doing headshots. Most people don’t so I always take a series of photos from their right side, straight one, and their left side. Then I show them the photos and ask them to choose the one the like best. Sometimes it’s really obvious, other times it’s a little harder and very rarely do they prefer both sides.

It’s a fun and interesting discovery every time and we always have a good laugh during the headshot session.
