This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Wardrobe + Prop Stylist Candice Waldman.
What was the last job you did before diving into styling full-time? Before becoming a stylist, I didn’t have any other official jobs in the industry. But I vividly remember being on a family holiday at around 12 years old, standing in Piccadilly Circus, when I saw a photoshoot happening. I had no idea what the job was, but I remember thinking, “Whatever that is, I want to do it one day.” That moment clearly stuck with me. I went on to study fashion design, and in my third year—right before our final graduate show—some friends of mine at an ad agency asked me to style a stills campaign for a South African clothing brand. It turned out really well, and the director booked me for the TV commercial right after. At first, it all felt so seamless!
What is your favorite thing to style? I honestly don’t have a single favorite. I feel so lucky to do what I love every day, that I approach each project with the same energy and commitment. Whether it’s a big campaign or a quieter editorial, I give it everything.
What season or projects do you most look forward to styling? I really enjoy the big travel jobs. They come with a unique kind of challenge—the prep has to be incredibly thorough because we’re often in locations without access to stores or resources. That constraint pushes me to be more creative and adaptable, which I find really fulfilling.
What do you love most about your job? The people. When you work with the same crew over time, they become like family. I genuinely love my assistants—we work hard, but we laugh just as much. I also have such respect for my clients. There’s a real trust that develops, and building those relationships is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
Where do you draw inspiration from? Each job calls for something different, but I’m especially drawn to interesting silhouettes—often inspired by late ’90s and early 2000s menswear, reinterpreted for women. I’m also big on color—I love mixing unexpected tones and pushing combinations that feel fresh and expressive.
