I’m Rya Wooten, the new MSJ/ reporter on the block.

I’m so happy to join WDRB News to cover your stories.

Today was my on-air debut. Oddly enough, I jumped right in to sit with KY Attorney General Russell Coleman. We talked about topics that are likely near and dear to many Kentuckians’ hearts.

I consider news as one of the most important duties of public service. I work in the best interest of the people. And it’s my job to shed truth and light on your stories. I don’t take that responsibility lightly.

We start by touching on crime and the homicides of Trinity Randolph and her father and seeking justice for Kevon Lawless, the man convicted of their murders. Then we hop over to the AG’s views on the death penalty and his back and forth with Gov. Andy Beshear. Lastly we talked about the drug crisis in KY.

I watched the film and I️ am still wiping tears. The Hopeless Journey, directed and written by tells the story of a young girl, Olivia, whose innocence is stripped as she is forced to wither the storms of s*x trafficking, drug abuse, and unfortunate circumstances to pay her mother’s debt. S*x trafficking is REAL. Addiction is ALIVE. And people battle with the stability of their mental and emotional health every day. This may not be your story but it is easily someone else’s. With as much that occurs under the radar in today’s world we need visuals like this to remind us that there is a world out there that is not for any of us.
