Red Avadavat – Spark of the Grasslands

Also known as the Strawberry Finch, this tiny bird glows with crimson and white spots during breeding season. Found across South Asia’s fields and wetlands, it flits low through tall grasses—bright, fleeting, and full of song.

What stirs beneath the red shimmer? Discover more below.

Sultan Tit – A Royal Catch in Harsh Light
Spotted this striking Sultan Tit with a caterpillar in its beak — a rare moment frozen in the harsh mid-morning sun. Unfortunately, the intense light burned out much of the detail, making me wish for a gentle overcast sky instead.
This large and bold tit is unmistakable with its coal-black upperparts, bright yellow belly, and a dramatically swept-back crest — more reminiscent of a bulbul in size than a typical tit. True to its nature, it was foraging high in the canopy, joining a mixed-species flock, and calling out with its shrill, high-pitched whistles.

This is the White-crested Laughingthrush – the Feathered Comedian of the Flock

With its bold white crest, chocolate-brown wings, and loud, bubbling call, the White-crested Laughingthrush is impossible to ignore. Native to the forests of South and Southeast Asia, it travels in noisy, social groups that chatter constantly — like nature’s gossip squad.

These birds are excellent team players, foraging together for insects and fruit on the forest floor. They even help raise each other's chicks in a kind of communal daycare.

Loud, social, and always on the move, the White-crested Laughingthrush brings a sense of mischief and melody to the forest canopy.
