With four laps to go at the Argentinian GP 1998 race, it started to rain and the track was like an ice rink.
On the last corner, Michael's Ferrari went straight on into a gravel trap. «There was one part where the track was particularly slippery and I got caught out. Luckily this morning I had seen Johnny (Herbert) get stuck in the sand at this point. I realised then that the best thing to do was to accelerate rather than brake, in order to get out.»
In the morning, the Ferrari driver had actually taken the trouble of going to speak to Herbert to ask his advice as to what to do at the point and he even went to look at the perimeter service road at that point on the track.
That allowed him to save the win.
