Hello, anyone who's been following this account for years! I can finally say that we are in the home stretch for an early 2026 publication date of my oral history of Chicago dining, THE CHICAGO WAY, from Agate Publishing. Specifically, the text is in the editing process, and I also just saw the first go at book covers. Not showing that yet, but it won't be long, I think.
Interviews with close to 200 people who helped make the Chicago food scene world-famous from the 1960s to the present bring to life the story of how restaurants evolved, neighborhoods from Lincoln Park to the West Loop turned hot, women fought for a place in the kitchen, farm to table became a thing, and high and low became flip sides of our scene—and in one case, got busted together for pushing foie gras.
So, follow our progress toward publication by following this account and get ready to find out all the secrets, the inside stories and more about how Chicago restaurants changed our world.
