With a week to go, with the help of Hermmon Rigging Systems LTD, we're two-stepping our way to having Sibongile ready for the Cowes Classic Regatta next weekend.
For the moment, we'll have an outboard engine to manoeuvre, but I was kinda expecting that. We had to make space for an OGR hopeful's. But that's why the bracket has been moved.
So, now we're awaiting a tan-coloured genoa, and some sliders to be sewn to the classically constructed main sail, and a modification to the boom, and then we can tidy her up and get her out for the day next weekend. 🤞

Taking the old pushpit off Sibongile, and will get her cleaned up with a new pushpit in the next couple of weeks. 🤞
Hopefully we'll be on the start-line for the Cowes Classic at the end of the month, alongside Peter's 1958 Hallberg Rassy 27 (Last picture). ❤️ ⛵

Clean, with upgraded anodes.
We've intentionally pushed the plans for this boat, "Sibongile", back... To allow Hermmon Rigging Systems LTD to work on Alex Vjuns boat, who has plans to enter the Ocean Globe Race (albeit with a different boat)
We... Will be ready for the Cowes Classic at the end of May ... ❤️ ⛵ 🐬

❤️ ⛵ International Women's Day ⛵ ❤️
In keeping with tradition, this weekend we're celebrating inspirational women in sailing.
But, rather than someone famous, I think local heroes are worth celebrating as much as the "Dame whoever"s are. 😊. So this year, I'd like to celebrate someone who loves sailing, is an inspiration to me personally, and who I am lucky to call my friend.

Anna Jakob fell in love with sailing a few years ago, was amazed at how therapeutic and cathartic being on the ocean can be, and left a lucrative career in teaching in Switzerland to work in the charitable sector, in sailing, in the UK.
Anna now has her Yachtmaster Offshore, and works with the Tall Ships Youth Trust, helping kids from challenging environments.
Anna is the embodiment of "helping someone probably won't change the world, but it might change the world for that one person".
In addition to that, she also helps developing skippers with their Day Skipper qualifications and skills developments.

So... From Sailing Sibongile, we say "Thank you for bringing your kindness and the world of sailing together in this way". .. hope to see you on the water again soon. ⛵ 😎👍

Funny how a change of plans turns out to be a lot of fun.
Delighted to have been asked to skipper this 1978 Royal Huisman 52 on the short trip up the Solen.
We've partnered with Rigit UK, on behalf of Alex Vjuns, who is getting a boat (not this one, unfortunately) ready for the Ocean Globe Race.
This boat is going to be for a combination of personal use and education.

Alex is looking for commercial partners (sponsors) who are interested joining the campaign. He's currently in Helsinki, but I hope to sit down with Alex for an interview next time he's in Southampton.

💜⛵ ... 1st Sailing of the Season !!! ... ❄️🌬️
The forecast for the next few days is OUTSTANDING for early March. I'm going to take Leven Point & Jon Seagull out, if anybody would like to join me.
- Tue, 4th... Leven Point out of Portishead, at 9am
- Thu, 6th... Jon Seagull out of Southampton, at 2pm.

ANNOUNCEMENT...!!! 🤩 ⛵ ♥️
This year, and hopefully onwards, we will be much more closely aligned with the The Royal Air Force Yacht Club, based on the Hamble River, near Southampton, UK. We will also, where possible, be tracking their events calendar for the year (because it's outstanding!).
I'm personally a member here, but stay tuned... I hope Sailing Sibongile crew will be able to enjoy some benefits on actual sailing days.
They are a great club. Have traditions, but not only for military people. And they encourage community, and celebrate sharing the love of sailing.

All that said... Sailing Sibongile's first formal event is not with the RAFYC, not even in the Hamble area, and probably not even sailing... 😅🤪

DATE FOR THE DIARY...!!!
- Saturday, 22nd of March, around 10am
- Sailor's Brunch, at Ocean Cafe Portishead
- Why??? My birthday, and 'start' of the season.
- Cost??? Depends on whatever you eat. (I ain't payin') 😉
