This Is Lorelei is the solo project of American songwriter and musician Nate Amos, who is also a member of the band Water From Your Eyes. His music combines elements of indie rock, pop and Americana, with a strong emphasis on storytelling and distinctive characters.
The Singer in My Band is his first album for Matador Records, following Holo Boy (2025) and Box for Buddy, Box for Star (2024).

📀 About the Track – “Billy Came Back”
“Billy Came Back” is a warm, twangy and melodic character-driven song about Billy, a memorable figure who disappears and later returns. The track combines playful storytelling with a heartfelt chorus, giving the song an affectionate and slightly surreal quality. It is track 3 on The Singer in My Band and runs for just over three minutes.

📀 About the Album – The Singer in My Band
Released September 11, 2026, The Singer in My Band is an 11-track album described by Amos as an “on-the-road beatnik” record. The songs grew out of his experiences travelling and touring, with stories that mix chaotic real-life experiences with fictional elements.
Amos engineered, produced and performed everything on the album, with his father, bluegrass musician Bob Amos, providing banjo on the title track. The album takes inspiration from the Great American Songbook while giving those traditions a distinctly modern and offbeat twist.
