“Boots of Spanish Leather (The Times They Are A-Changin' Alternate Take, NYC, 1963)”

This newly released alternate take from Bootleg Series Vol. 18 offers a simpler, earlier look at one of Dylan’s classic songs. Recorded in New York in 1963, this version highlights Dylan’s voice and guitar with a more direct, unpolished feel.

The track brings out the plain-spoken emotion in the lyrics — a quiet conversation about distance, change, and loss — and shows Dylan refining a songwriting style that would soon reshape folk music.

A thoughtful snapshot of a young artist at work, and a great listen for anyone interested in Dylan’s early creative process.
