As anyone lucky enough to witness their BurySOUND shows earlier this year will attest, KRUMPETS are a jaw-droppingly brilliant live band, pinwheeling between whispered, harmony-drenched folk delicacy and monstrously soul-quaking grunge. Also, they sing about dogs, so THERE IS NOTHING NOT TO LOVE. Come and see for yourselves why they were crowned BurySOUND's Rising Star Award winners TONIGHT (7th June) at The Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds!

Support from THE VITAMINS, LOVE MINUS ONE, WAKE ATLAS and PINK SERENE; 6-11pm; all ages are welcome (under-14s with a parent/carer); £5 on the door or via WeGotTickets.com/washingmachineclubnight

BurySOUND 2025 Finalists BI-NEURAL will be back at The Hunter Club on Saturday 17th May, supporting KILLERKORP and reformed BurySOUND metal legends BECKY JAGO! Click on the image for tickets and details.

On Saturday 17th May at The Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds, we’ll be sweetly and delicately gnawing off your faces as thrash titans KILLERKORP return to finish what Henry VIII started and raze Bury’s historic medieval grid to rubble. By way of assistance, total 00s grindcore legends BECKY JAGO are reforming because it was about bloody time - expect deranged hits galore, both old and new (yes, they ARE playing ‘Baby Barbecue’). If that wasn’t exciting enough, Norwich’s incredible dancefloor destructors OI NAH, BurySOUND-disrupting prog wonders BI-NEURAL and rising metal warriors MANEATER will be opening the show. Does Bury stand a chance? No. Will we die with Smylex grins on our faces? Oh yes.

6-11pm; all ages are welcome (under-14s with a parent/carer); £5 via WeGotTickets.com/washingmachineclubnight

HUGE thanks to all of the artists who took part in this year's BurySOUND for making it our musically strongest year to date - the East Anglian music scene is a brilliant place right now and we're proud to be a part of it. Thanks to all of our judges - Alec Jarman, Angelle Joseph, Catherine Lindley-Neilson, Dave Hammond, Emma Warren, Frankie Soan, Hayley Clapperton, Jack Cutting, Jason Grubb, Joe Weaver, Millie Honour, Ned Newman, Nick Pooley, Shannon Hope, Simon Cooper and Tony Bell - for giving your time and expertise; to everyone at The Hunter Club and The Apex; to all the businesses and journalists who helped spread the word; to our incredibly generous sponsors; and to everyone who came along to support emerging talent.

If you've been inspired by the artists you've seen this year, get involved - we'll be taking applications for BurySOUND 2026 from September, which gives you plenty of time to form a band/duo/collective or pick up a instrument or microphone just to see what happens.

Big love to all of you - see you next time!

The BurySOUND Music Competition 2019

Established in 1998, BurySOUND is one of East Anglia’s best-known and longest-running band competitions, endeavouring to discover, nurture and promote up and coming musical talent. The competition is open to young bands and artists based in and around the West Suffolk area. All genres are welcome. There is no upper age limit, but priority is given to younger entrants. Twenty-five acts will perform over five heats at The Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds and at Haverhill Arts Centre during February and March 2020. One winner will be chosen from each heat by our judging panel. The Grand Final will be held at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Friday 20th March 2020. Our judging panel comprises musicians, promoters, DJs, journalists, producers and other industry professionals who adore live music, and who make a positive contribution to the local scene. Bands are judged on musical ability, entertainment factor, stage presence, lyrical content, originality, professionalism and band togetherness, but more importantly, on the intangible, indefinable awesomeness, passion and raw talent that future biopics are made of. The competition element, however, is secondary to the thrill of discovering other like-minded artists, and playing in front of a music-loving crowd. Whoever wins or loses, everyone will be part of something amazing!
