A few months ago I tore my Achilles playing basketball. The word friendship has a new meaning to me after the injury. Only about 5 of my friends made an effort to reach out or help in any way. With the injury I knew turkey season with my boys would be impossible. Being immobile for about a month and still on crutches now. It would be hard to get on any birds.
Then steps in Garrett. Youth season was 3 days after I had surgery so there was no shot I was going. Garret says no problem I got it. He took my boy Bladen and my wife and was able to get him on a bird.
Then today my oldest boy Rayner wanted me to be there for his first turkey. He wanted to wait till his fourth season tag. So we made it happen on crutches. I knew it would be challenging but we had to try. Garrett again stepped up and was willing to help. While also having a tag for the same weekend as my boy. Putting Rayner ahead of himself to kill a bird. After a long mile or so on crutches across muddy fields sinking 6 inches deep on the crutches every step. Rayner was able to connect on a bird.
Long story short I have had some good friends. Lost some friends for reason I don't even know. But only a few friends have been true brothers. Garrett is one of the dudes I'm lucky to call brother. Thanks again Garrett. Not only for putting up with my slow ass today. But you made an impact that will last years to come not only on me but my boys as well.
