Here's another fresher! Say hi if you see her around !

Hey, what’s your name?
“Hi my name is Jihane Habet”

What are you studying at UWI?
“I’m studying a BSc in Human nutrition and dietetics”

What country are you from?
“I’m from Belize”

What do you like about your country?
“We are very friendly people um if you go to visit someday you’ll see we have a lot of flora and fauna, our tourism industry is high because we have a perfect balance of both beach and country life.”

Why did u choose to study at UWI St Augustine?
“I chose to come here mainly because I visited the campus when I was in high school and I really liked it also my sister came to school here, I chose the Caribbean because its comfortable for me and I really liked the country and school”

Since this is your first semester at UWI, how has it been?
“It’s been good school wise, I mean its slightly stressful but I’ve been to university before so I kind of know how to balance the life it’s been pretty good for me.”

Where do you see yourself in ten (10) years from now?
“Career wise I see myself having my own clinic, I’m planning on going unto clinical nutrition when moving back to Belize and specialize in having my own clinic working with hospitals, gym and schools back home. “

What is one thing u like and dislike about UWI?
“Hmmm well I like the cultural diversity at UWI I like the fact that although it being a Caribbean country there are people from all over the world here I really like that diversity and how people are very laid back and friendly umm I guess what I don’t like, I think that people are also a bit clicky its just certain people may stick to each other for e.g. In classes you know that people come from a specific high school because they stick together and they don’t exactly talk to you, I feel the friends I made its because I talked to them first but um other than that I don’t have any dislikes about UWI but I have complaints about the shuttle service hahahah but it’s pretty good otherwise . “

Big io one of our own!

Hi whats your name ?
"My name is Joshua Gooding "

How old are you ?
"I'm 20"

Where are u from ?
"I'm from St Vincent and the Grenadines"

What are you studying at UWI?
"I'm studying a degree in Biology with specialization in marine and environment ecology"

Why u chose to study at UWI STA and not MONA or CAVE HILL ?
"I choose UWI STA due to the fact that MONA is further away from my country and Barbados is more expensive, while Trinidad has a wider variety of diversification in terms of specialization ,so there is much more options in the Biology aspect than Barbados and in a sense Jamaica"

Could you tell us something u like or love about this country ?
"The diverse culture , in my country there is only Christianity influence so it may be hard at times to experience different cultures and experiences "

What about the food in Trinidad ?
"I was really disappointed , I thought the food would be a bit more spicy but its good otherwise"

Where do you see yourself in 10 years ?
"I see myself back in my country trying to aid our marine ecosystems and conversation methods by bringing awareness about environmental conservation to primary and secondary schools"

Last question , how would u sell your country to a tourist ?
"Since im studying marine biology ill market the fact that we have crystal clear waters and we have amazing aquatic life , if you love ecotourism my country is the place to be , if u like hiking we have mountainous hills and volcanos for those who love adventures and our beaches are simply the best "

THANK YOU !

MEMORANDUM
To: All Residents, Students, Invited Guest and Administration
The Sir Arthur Lewis Hall of Residence
The UWI, St Augustine Campus
From: The Hall Chairperson, Office of the Arthur Lewis Hall Committee
Date: November 11, 2016
Subject: Hall Concert and Afterparty

The Hall Committee hereby announces the postponing of this years concert and afterparty to next semester. This descison was reached after increasingly poor response to the logistics of the event. Given the challenges we faced, we were left with no feasible option but to have the concert at a later date. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped and supported us thus far with the ex*****on whether it be through service provided, tickets sold, promotion and those who took part in the actual performances.

We would still like to encourage all residents and patrons to come out and support our continued efforts. Tickets will still be on sale. Everyone who has already bought their ticket is encouraged to hold on to it as all tickets will remain valid. Tickets will remain at a cost of $60 for all UWI students and $80 otherwise with the package price of $100 for concert and afterparty for UWI students. All other arrangements are already being made with all our residents in mind. This was by no means tan easy decision to make and we are again sorry for any inconvenience caused. Kindly contact any member of The Committee for further information.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Good evening.

The hall committee conducted a meeting, alongside a representative from the hall administration team, who has direct contact with the relevant ministries and officials, on the 16th of October. The purpose of this meeting which was announced was to discuss the trip to Tobago and to address the concerns of all person who are going or had express intentions of going.

At this meeting :

1 a final list was taken of those attending to be sent to make any final alterations to bookings. No new booking changes would be made!

2 a formal apology was provide for any mis-communication and inconvenience caused to residents, regarding this event.

3 a decision was taken in respect refunds, for which a lot of residents had express interest.

Based on the heavy subsidy for the trip, the Hall was asked to make a contribution, regardless of the total number of persons attending. It was based on this that the initial policy of no refunds was instituted. However it was announced that those who have already paid either the deposit or the full price would be provided a refund not exceeding $100, by Monday 20th once claimed by the respective individuals.

The committee again would like to take this time to sincerely apologize to all those negatively impacted. This has been a learning experience and as such we would make every possible effort to ensure that this occurrence is not repeated.

Sincerely

Dilon Lawrence
Deputy Hall Chairperson

Your best friend’s little sister got engaged; the girl that sat next to you in high school is pregnant with her second child; the guy that lived next door to you is a missionary in Cambodia, and you? You’re sitting in your same old room, still cutting...
