Remembering the 2005 Delhi Blasts: A Tragic Day Before Diwali

New Delhi, October 29, 2005:
Just two days before Diwali, the national capital was shaken by one of its most horrifying terror attacks. Three coordinated bomb blasts tore through busy marketplaces in Sarojini Nagar, Paharganj, and Govindpuri, killing more than 60 innocent people and leaving over 200 injured.

The explosions targeted crowded shopping areas where families had gathered for festive preparations. The sudden terror not only claimed lives but shattered countless families and left emotional scars that continue to haunt survivors.

Markets that were filled with the joy of Diwali shopping were instantly turned into scenes of chaos—sirens filled the air, shops burned, and people desperately searched for loved ones. Emergency services and citizens worked tirelessly through the night to help victims.

The devastating attacks were a grim reminder of the threats faced by ordinary citizens going about their daily lives. The day remains etched in India’s collective memory not only for the scale of the tragedy but also for the resilience of Delhi’s people, who came together to support one another in the face of horror.

Even after two decades, October 29, 2005 stands as a solemn reminder of lives lost and families changed forever. As India celebrates festivals each year, the nation remembers those who never returned home that day.
