Swindon has welcomed its first Green borough councillor, with Ian Edwards leaving Labour to join the Green Party. He announced he would sit as a Green councillor until May next year, expressing pride in representing the Greens.
Councillor Edwards said he was inspired by Green leader Zack Polanski and felt compelled to join after attending a recent conference. He criticised Labour and the government, stating, “When did the Labour Party leave the Labour Party?” and praised the Greens for their focus on social justice and environmental issues.
The Swindon Area Green Party reported rapid growth, more than doubling membership since January and increasing over 60 per cent since September. His move leaves four party groups on the council, though Labour maintains an overwhelming majority.
Labour’s Councillor Sean Wilson also resigned from the group at the same time. Councillor Robbins expressed disappointment at party switching without a by-election but highlighted Labour’s ongoing efforts in local development and investment projects.

It’s time to plant Spring bulbs!
This is your chance to make a direct impact to the project by planting your own bulbs that you can watch grow and bloom.
Early flowering plants are vital food sources in spring for our precious pollinators. We have been improving our habitat area this year, adding in many perennial flowering plants and we would like to enrich this further with the addition of spring bulbs.
Please bring any:
🟣 Crocus - the bigger the better!
🟡 Wild Daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus)
⚪️ Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis)
Lunch Box Buddy will be back on Friday! I’ll have lunches available for 3 days over half term plus extra breakfasts, lunches and dinners to take home. If there are any businesses that would like to sponsor my project, please take a look at https://lunchboxbuddy.co.uk/business-sponsorship/ Thank you! Buddy

What is Devizine all about?
I ask myself that very question. As the name suggests, we’re based in Devizes and therefore we aim to keep features as local as possible. The second half of the title relates to the ethos we operate with, taking the underground self-published zines of yore to universal appeal, we don’t take subject matter too rigidly and freely write about whatever we wish!
That said, primarily Devizine strives to inform, promote and engage, in magazine-styled lifestyle topics from performing arts, music, art, literature, sports, local community affairs and fundraising efforts. We generally steer clear of national headlines and political standings, but sometimes dabble in local politics for local elections and news stories, provided we feel it would be of interest to our readers.
We have the most comprehensive event guide in the area, from a jumble sale to all out mud-fest! We review and preview events, as well as local recorded music, art and anything else we like the sound of! We will interview local creative people, people making a difference to our community. We also enjoy a spoof now and then, and critical satire is welcomed.
We are always on the lookout for new writers and photographers to join our small team. We are always looking out for news stories. We network through social media on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We also have a YouTube channel to post videos of our outings. We support music sites which give the artist a good deal, such as Bandcamp, and we strive to share articles from bloggers doing similar to us.
There are many methods to let us know what you’d like to see included, to feed us a scoop. If you’ve something you’d like us to consider please get in touch. We have an email [email protected] also have contact forms on the website, and we have a small Facebook group for pitching ideas called The Devizine Communications Group. We are non-profit-making, but we do require some funds to keep the website running and cover some costs, so, we offer low cost advertising, only asking for a donation, and advertise all charities, charity fundraising events or school events free.
Over the past couple of years, we have built a strong and respected reputation with our local theatre, arts and music scenes, we work with organisers and artists to showcase them in the best manner possible and we aim to produce a printed version, free to the end user as soon as feasible. Devizine has become a much-loved media outlet for our area, and is spoken of highly.
This makes me proud, Devizine is my baby! Most of all though, it’s about publishing content people want to read, and having fun. It is still a hobby, I do not allow WordAds to feed you spam and popups, we do not spam our mailing list rather send one weekly roundup. We are a network and look forward to hearing how we can help you.
