A very special Arbor Day tree planting took place yesterday at Bluff Park Elementary School. This year's tree was planted and dedicate in memory of Ben Gibbs, who would have graduated from Hoover High School this year. Several of his former BPES classmates, family, and friends were in attendance for the tree planting, an annual event hosted by the Hoover Beautification Board.

AMAZING!!

Our very own Katie Collins is a FINALIST for National Teacher of the Year! We are so proud of you and rooting you own to reach for this honor!

Hoover City Schools very own Katie Collins has been named one of five finalists for the 2026 National Teacher of the Year.

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced the finalists, recognizing five outstanding educators from across the country for their exceptional dedication to students and the teaching profession. The finalists will travel to Washington, DC, to interview with the National Teacher of the Year Selection Committee.

Since the national program began in 1952, Mrs. Collins is one of only seven educators from Alabama to be named a national finalist and the second teacher from HCS to earn this distinction, following Tonya Perry in 2001.

We are so proud of you, Mrs. Collins, and grateful for the impact you make every day for students, families, and fellow educators.

There is some significant news for Bluff Park, and specifically the preservation of the Hale Springs property on the side of Shades Mountain.

On Monday, December 22, the City of Hoover approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a memorandum of understanding for the preservation and development of Hale Springs, as well as its nomination by Friends of Shades Mountain (FOSM) to Forever Wild Land Trust.

This is a huge step toward protecting this historic place for future generations. The next goal for FOSM, the group spearheading the efforts, is to secure a similar commitment from the City of Birmingham.

Once both cities are on board, FOSM will bring it before Forever Wild.

Together, we’re one step closer to preserving Hale Springs forever. 🌱
