I Refused to Give Up: My Journey Into Digital Marketing"
My name is ThankGod Agbuye, and exactly a year ago, I began a journey that would shape my futureâthe journey into digital marketing.
But truth be told, nothing about it came easy.
I had just relocated to a developing part of Lagosâan area where electricity was a luxury and daily living came with more struggles than comfort.
I didnât have access to stable power. My only option was a small generator that broke down almost every day. I spent countless frustrating hours with a generator repairer who seemed to take more than he gaveâfixing the same issue today only for it to break down again tomorrow. The cost of constant repairs felt like I was pouring my hard-earned money into a bottomless pit.
But I had a dreamâand I refused to let it die.
At that point, I couldnât even afford a personal computer. All I could manage was to pay the registration fee for a digital marketing course. The facilitator told me I could return and resume classes once I could afford a laptop. That gave me hope. But that hope came with a painful delay.
Six months.
Six long months of hustling, saving, sacrificingâuntil I could finally buy a personal computer.
I returned, excited to start the classâonly to face another heartbreak. The tuition fee had increased, and the facilitator insisted I pay the difference, even though that was never part of the agreement. I felt cheated. Lost. Angry. But I also knew something else: I needed this. This wasnât just a course. It was my way out. So, I searched for more funds, swallowed my pride, and completed the payment.
Finally, I began learning.
But then came another major roadblockâelectricity.
Without power, my laptop was just a decoration. Iâd charge it where I could, and pray the battery lasted long enough to learn something valuable. Still, I pushed forward. Every day, I reminded myself:
âThis pain will pass. Just donât give up.â
Today, Iâm grateful to say that some of the very things that once held me back⌠no longer do.
With deep gratitude to God, I recently installed a solar power system that now gives me up to 15 hours of electricity daily. It powers my laptop, my learning, my growthâand most importantly, it powers my dream.
This journey has been filled with setbacks, sacrifices, and silent tearsâbut also with strength, faith, and determination.
I didnât give up when it was hard.
I didnât stop when it was unfair.
And I wonât stop now.
To anyone struggling todayâlet my story remind you:
Your current situation is not your final destination.
Keep pushing. Keep believing. Youâre closer than you think.
