Si existe un lugar en la tierra al que todo amante del Ska, el Rocksteady y el Reggae debería peregrinar al menos una vez en la vida, ese es Orange Street en el centro de Kingston, Jamaica.

Mejor conocida en la época dorada como "Beat Street", esta mítica calle fue el corazón palpitante donde se construyó la identidad musical de toda una nación. Durante los años 60 y 70, en apenas unas cuantas cuadras convivían los estudios, tiendas y sellos legendarios de los arquitectos del sonido: Prince Buster, Leslie Kong (Beverley's), Coxsone Dodd, Randy’s (Studio 17) y más tarde el rincón Rockers de Augustus Pablo.

Ahí resonaban los potentes amplificadores de los Sound Systems, ahí se vendían los vinilos en 45 RPM salidos del horno y ahí se reunían los rude boys a marcar el paso. Orange Street no solo fue una calle: fue el epicentro cultural donde el ritmo caribeño se convirtió en leyenda mundial.
