For the month of August we are doing a feature called "Tools Of Their Trade", posts about the instruments the members of The Wrecking Crew recorded with (guitars, amps, and other instruments)

Today's feature: Hammond Organs

The Hammond B-3, and C-3 organs have a very distinctive sound that have been heard on many recordings, and in live performances. Used in conjunction with a rotating Leslie speaker it is a truly classic sound.

Some notable recordings done by the Wrecking Crew featuring the Hammond are "Indian Reservation" by The Raiders, many Beach Boys recordings (including "Good Vibrations" and "California Girls") "The Beat Goes On" by Sonny & Cher, "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra, and many others. (if you have any others feel free to post them.....)

Refinishing BV at a church, top was a disaster of scratches and gauges. Stripper applied, scraped, stained 5 times. Looks well you can see for yourselves. Lacquer or tung oil next week. Kent my apprentice did a good job. We also fixed the sides and even used a hot knife where needed.

Goldy McJohn is a Legendary Iconic keyboard player best known as the original keyboardist for the group Steppenwolf. Originally a classically trained pianist, he was a pioneer in the early use of the electronic organ in rock music.
