Juliet Cook is happy to have her new haiku hybrid poem "(Un)formulaic Formula" appearing at The Literary Underground In Conversation today!

HERE -

(Un)formulaic Formula When you feel like you write a haiku in a dream, but do not transfer those words outside your brain's portal. Can't speak. Maybe you swallowed the page. Your own writing tastes better than a bottle of baby formula. Juliet Cook doesn't fit inside an Easy-Bake Oven and rarely co...

"Now the drinks come easy with curves and tight shirts,
in the embrace of intoxication she learns to anesthetize her r**e.

Unnamed men line up to come between her legs,
in a barbarian ritual meant to baptize her r**e.

Salivating for mined pleasure in the feminine mystique,
from Mary to Persephone — we mythologize her r**e."

"what did you get me? you ask on valentine’s day. i’m sorry honey,
i forgot. so much is dying in the world, what if our love is one of them?

you forget to make me dinner. it’s fine, lost my appetite
from watching the butchery of palestinian bodies and souls anyway.
4th hour on the 4k tv, 4th day in a row. that’s all we do anymore.

i can still see my cat’s face the day he died, my sweet baby. think about
the children of gaza, the mothers of gaza—orphaned and childless, yet
my tears received more tenderness.
if i cover my eyes, i see precious little sidra hanging from the concrete slab,
disfigured.
you say you need a break

and turn on the super bowl. an israeli propaganda ad
gets the crowd going. you don’t find it amusing,
you don’t mind it either. you don’t get it, and neither do i."

in the poem "how to love in times of a genocide" by Priyanuj Mazumdar, in Issue #14 of Harbor Review

"Angry-reacting to a hot dog was a relapse.
I dread telling my sponsor.
My sponsor isn’t an understanding person,
which is because he isn’t a person. My sponsor is my cat.

When I tell my cat about my relapse, I’ll imagine him saying,
“Maybe you angry-reacted to a picture of a hot dog
because, at first glance, it looked like an unsolicited dick pic.
Or maybe you’re mad about the meat industry.
Maybe you’re mad about the exploitation
and inhumane treatment of animals. You could have
been projecting. Maybe you’re mad at yourself
for still not being vegan. Be vegan, you sick motherf**ker!”

I’ll scratch my head, then say, “Another possibility
is that it wasn’t the hot dog itself that made me mad.
Maybe it was the bun. Maybe my brain made
a subconscious association between the bun
and this video I saw once of this Smash Mouth concert.
I saw the singer of Smash Mouth threaten
to jump into the crowd and beat people up
for throwing tiny slices of bread at the stage.”"

A recent Juliet Cook poetry oriented update.

I received a poetry rejection this past weekend from MudRoom, but they did say they hoped I would consider submitting again during their next reading period.

I also got an email this past weekend asking for my address so I could receive my contributor copy of Keeping the Flame Alive Magazine issue 10 so yay!

I want to re-read/re-consider three new short poems I thought I had completed last week, because when I re-read them last night, I wasn't so sure.

I want to write more (and read more and submit more) soon, but first I should probably try to focus more on reading/responding to Thirteen Myna Birds submissions, of which I have fallen behind, as well as putting up a new Thirteen Myna Birds flock, for which I am also behind. I will get to it eventually though, hopefully soon.

And while I'm talking about poetry, I would also like to mention my two most recently published poetry chapbooks, in case anyone might like to check out or acquire one (or get something else from the indie presses that published them). As of right now, both of them are still available.🙃🙃

"REVOLTING" (published by CUL-DE-SAC of Blood, November 2024) is available HERE - https://www.culdesacofblood.com/books

"Blue Stingers Instead of Wings" (published by Pure Sleeze Press, April 2025) is available HERE - https://puresleezepress.bigcartel.com/product/blue-stingers-instead-of-wings

Both of these chapbooks are also available directly from me (just ask) OR in the Blood Pudding Press shop, along with a variety of other chapbooks HERE - https://www.etsy.com/shop/BloodPuddingPress

Wishing everyone a creatively wonderful last week/weekend of August!
