UGLY GR**GO VIDEO GOES VIRAL

Anti-expat sentiments flared at Lakeside on Monday, July 14, after a local media outlet shared a video showing a dispute between a local bus driver and an English-speaking man who refused to move his motorcycle from the middle of a narrow Ajijic street to allow the bus to pass.
The foreigner apparently wanted the bus to back up so he could park his BMW motorcycle in his garage. A bystander's voice is heard in the video explaining that there was plenty of room for the man to move his bike to the side of the street until the bus could continue. In response, the man stepped onto the sidewalk, took off his helmet in defiance, and said, "Call the police if you want, I don’t care."

A U.S. citizen, Kathryn B., residing in Ajijic since 2021, faced a dire situation when she was evicted from a hotel due to non-payment and found herself wandering the streets with no next of kin or emergency contacts. With advanced dementia and unable to seek help, she was taken to the Lake Chapala Society, where staff worked tirelessly to find her temporary shelter and long-term care options. Despite numerous efforts, including reaching out to local authorities and the U.S. Consulate, no immediate solutions were found. Kathryn's story highlights the growing need for elderly expats to have proper legal and financial plans in place, including wills and designated contacts. Rotarians are key to kidney transplant for Ajijic resident

Largely thanks to the Chapala Sunrise Rotary, América Gabriela (Gaby) Ramos Orozco from Ajijic recently received a life-saving kidney transplant at Guadalajara’s Hospital Civil. Much of her testing and hemodialysis treatments were funded through a special Renal Fund established by the club, and her surgery was paid for with a Rotary International Global Grant awarded to Chapala Sunrise in March 2024. Zapopan opens ground-breaking Autism Center

As part of a comprehensive initiative to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Zapopan has opened its second Autism Center in the Miramar neighborhood—the largest facility of its kind in Latin America. Constructed for 165 million pesos (US$8.7 million), the facility includes therapy spaces, an audiovisual lab, a multisensory room, evaluation and diagnostic areas, a multipurpose auditorium, daily living simulators, a Gesell Chamber, gardens, a play area and a calming room.

Autism is now more widely recognized and diagnosed than in the past, not necessarily because more people have autism, but because diagnostic criteria have improved, awareness has grown, and stigma has decreased. Common traits include difficulty with social cues, repetitive behaviors or intense interests and sensory sensitivities.

ASD is lifelong, but early intervention and support can greatly improve quality of life.

11 young learners celebrate graduation

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) celebrated a significant milestone on Saturday, June 14, with a graduation ceremony and party honoring 11 students who successfully completed the inaugural English as a Second Language (ESL) children’s program.The graduation party was a festive celebration of the students’ achievements, attended by their teachers, LCS staff, families, and guests. Each student received a graduation certificate to recognize their dedication and progress, as well as a souvenir gift. The event concluded with kid-friendly refreshments, including pepperoni pizza and ice cream sundaes. Designed for local kids ages 7 to 10, the six-month course aimed to develop language skills through engaging, interactive lessons that helped young learners build confidence in speaking English.

Good afternoon Patriots.
Kings! I have a lifetime of experience fighting Kings; I lived under the rule of three English Kings: George I, George II, and finally, George III.
I am proud to be one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and I drafted this sacred document to rid ourselves of the tyranny of King George III, and to ensure that the United States would never be ruled by a King.
Please allow me to read excerpts from our Declaration of Independence:
In Congress, July 4, 1776
The unanimous declaration of the thirteen United States of America.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such government.
The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having the direct object of absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
He has made judges dependent on his will alone. He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people. He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies. He has cut off trade with all parts of the world, imposed taxes on us without our consent. He deprived us, in many cases, of the right to a trial by jury. He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us.
A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
The 55 men who joined me in signing our Declaration of Independence were, in the eyes of King George III, committing treason. Some of our friends and neighbors, and even my own son, agreed with the tyrant. But the signers believed so strongly in our cause that we closed the document with these words: “We mutually pledge to each other Our Lives, Our Fortunes, and Our Sacred Honor.”
We did our part. The present question is: What will you do to fight tyranny?

Rain or Shine, We Shall Overcome

A short-lived downpour was no deterrent for the June 14 No Kings demonstration in Ajijic.
The heavens opened at 3 p.m., sending protest organizers, sound technicians and attendees scrambling for cover in the bandstand kiosk at the center of the village.
The storm dissipated right on cue, allowing the event to proceed as planned.
A highlight of the program was a short speech presented by Benjamin Franklin impersonator Steven Nousen who replicated the distinguished Founder Father’s commentaries on the Declaration of Independence.

’NO KINGS’ RALLIES IN AJIJIC & GUADALAJARA

In solidarity with the “No Kings-No Tyrants” movement, the Democrats Abroad Lake Chapala Chapter hosted a rally on Saturday, June 14, at the Ajijic Plaza. This was the organization’s third “Hands-Off” demonstration against U.S. government policies and actions led by President Donald Trump. Democrats Abroad also sponsored demonstrations in Guadalajara, Mexico City and other locations across the country. The Guadalajara rally took place outside the U.S. Consulate in Colonia Monraz.

A TRADITION RETURNS TO TEATRO DEGOLLADO

The renowned University of Guadalajara folk dance troupe is set to begin a short summer season at the majestic Teatro Degollado in downtown Guadalajara.
