A federal judge has overturned the murder conviction of Karl Jordan Jr. in the 2002 killing of Run‑DMC’s Jam Master Jay, ruling prosecutors failed to prove a motive. The judge upheld co‑defendant Ronald Washington’s conviction. The case, one of hip‑hop’s most enduring mysteries, stalled for nearly 20 years before charges were filed.

Kwanzaa is a seven‑day, non‑religious holiday observed in the United States to honor and celebrate African Americans’ ancestral roots and culture. Created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, the celebration continues through January 1.

Day 4 of Kwanzaa honors Ujamaa — Cooperative Economics. This principle focuses on building and sustaining community‑owned businesses, strengthening economic independence, and sharing in both the work and the wealth. Families light the fourth candle — a red candle to the left of the black candle — and reflect on ways to support collective economic growth and invest in their community’s future.

Broadway legend Nat Horne, 95, is at risk of losing the Hell’s Kitchen home he’s lived in since 1968. Neighbors and former students have launched a GoFundMe to help him stay in the place that has anchored his life for more than five decades.

Horne broke barriers as the first African-American corps member in the U.S. Military’s Special Services, became an original member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and appeared in 12 Broadway shows. He later co‑founded Theatre Row and opened the Nat Horne Musical Theatre, training performers from around the world.

Now the community he shaped is stepping up to support him.
