CALICO LAUNCH PARTY 18/07/25: SLEEPSANG

Producer, live coder, DJ and Interworld mainstay from the beginning, has fallen back in love with the weirder strains for club music. Today we release his latest EP, Calico: five cuts of dark, bass-heavy bangers with jittery rhythms and meticulous sound design.

Made over a number of years via reconstruction of improvised live coding, field recordings, disembodied voices and more, these tunes are hugely detailed and reward deeper listening. They also function in the club, as industrial techno, halftime 140 bass music, and 160+ juke-style rollers. Highlights include the insectoid melody in Sentient Dawn, the multiple drops of Calico, and the unexpected beat flip on Affectionate that catches you unawares.

It's out on Bandcamp right now, as well as various "streaming services".

The atmosphere is thick in this one, and we're super keen to celebrate tonight in Sheffield at .sheffield Workroom - get tickets via Skiddle or Resident Advisor (link in bio) and we'll see you there!!!

CALICO LAUNCH PARTY 18/07/25: PSI [LIVE]

Psi is the collaborative project of long-time friends and musical co-conspirators Sam Schorb and Matt Rhodes (file photo, panel 1), based between Sheffield and Manchester. Both are seasoned artists in their own right: Sam has released as Damu (Keysound, Local Action), while Matt’s solo work as Bexlr has appeared on the Imaginary Numbers label.

Though they’ve been running nights and making music together since 2010, Psi marks their first foray into live, public performance as a duo: a wild and totally improvised rush of hardgroove techno drawing on the raw immediacy of live coding and free jazz, while being rooted in years of collaboration. The result is hypnotic, textual repetition blended with transcendent chaos.

Expect spontaneous grooves, driving rhythms, and a sense of being swept up in something greater than the sum of its parts.

Part of the legendary Amledd collective, Cardiff-raised best friends Gwil & J-DE have brought the likes of DJ Spinn & Traxman to Sheffield. Reflecting their love of footwork, their set will provide a carefully curated mix of frenetic drums, heavy basslines, and silly selections north of 160 bpm as well as J-DE’s own productions.

Producer, DJ and live coder Sleepsang returns to the Interworld label with his EP, Calico – the result of falling back in love with the weirder strains of club music. Entries such as Affectionate and Sentient Dawn rhyme with the artist’s early love of industrial techno, whilst the project was written in a subsequent period of nostalgia. Its five tracks are decorated with sounds that have been re-constructed from live-coded performances, field recordings, disembodied vocal takes and other sound sources.

Tracks like Sentient Dawn, with its rushing glitchy sequences, and the spacious Affectionate span the range of possibilities within the EP. Denial Lot is a rolling head-shaker with the persistence of techno and a weight you might find in further UK extensions of bass music – a crouching and ominous ascension that stays at a certain height, giving it an intimidating and stealthy effect. Crushed is tightly wound but gradual, and its 3-minute runtime is just enough for Sleepsang to get his point across. But it’s all within the scope of Calico’s theme, with uneasy atmospheric elements melding into a nervous, throbbing dancefloor energy.

The EP’s title track has a bridging purpose that connects Calico together. It's a fresh representation of what Sleepsang is capable of with his production, capturing what live performances from him in a club setting can sound like: musical data in dark and bass-heavy form with jittery rhythms and a slight touch of weirdness that unifies much of the project.

Enlisting Sam Schorb for the project’s mixing and Declared Sound for its mastering, Calico has the polish such experimental club music deserves – designed to ricochet off a loud soundsystem, it successfully captures the feeling of losing your bearings in a dark venue.

needs very little introduction, but we’re giving one anyway. Founder of Calabash!, core team member of The Beatriarchy and Oroko Radio resident, MYNA is a multi-genre DJ of northern Nigerian heritage who brings an expansive range of music from the African diaspora and beyond. With a penchant for bassy, drum-heavy music and a flair for mixing afro-centric cuts, MYNA has played at White Hotel, Soup and Corsica, to name a few.

She works endlessly to cultivate music and arts scenes in Sheffield and beyond, supporting and connecting marginalized voices across the entire dance music space. We are hugely honoured and extraordinarily excited to bring her back for yet another Interworld throwdown, following sets at INTER-METAL, our Thrillhouse 10-year celebration and a live-coding set at Witch’s Lair – expect the unexpected with eclectic selections of primo cuts 🔥🔥🔥

We had a supremely wonderful time hosting and / at Arley St a couple weeks back - three sets that each transported us on a wholly distinct journey! Big thanks to everyone who came out to be still with us while our collective minds became entwined for several hours, and a special thanks to everyone who performed and helped at the space to make it happen

INTERWORLD returns to FORGE to celebrate their newest EP from label mainstay Sleepsang. With a primo line-up of four genre-defying acts, the crew are ready to flood the Workroom with forward-thinking bangers and vivid CRT visuals. Our body is ready – is yours?

SLEEPSANG
Producer, DJ and live coder has been an integral member of the Interworld crew since our initial excursions at Foodhall back in the late 2010s. Since then, he has further honed his DJing expertise and precision soundcrafting into a distinctly recognizable aesthetic. Following 2021’s album Beyond, he returns to the Interworld label with Calico, an EP of immersive yet tightly wound club bangers. Expect from Sleepsang a wide array of industrial breakdowns and emotional breakbeats, crunchy mashups blending high-res techno and juke workouts, and much more.

Master of all he touches Sam Schorb (aka Damu; aka one half of CCAI with Yaxu) last played for us at 2022’s Thrillhouse anniversary night with a showcase of scintillating modular synth patterns. This time he is launching Psi, a duo with collaborator Matt performing live techno using drum machine and synths. You know it’s gonna be huge.

INTERWORLD presents... FLIGHT CODA

Flight Coda is one of myriad projects from Jonathan George Fox, an artist from Sheffield exploring sound, visuals and coding in their practice. On albums “a window at night the 27th” (Warm Winters Ltd) and “there’s a planet on your chest”, celestial drones and delicate melodies merge to form soundscapes that feel both fragile and all-encompassing at the same time.

For this performance, Flight Coda plans to re-purpose their archive of recordings and melodic passages to bring us through various emotional territories, synonymous with their personal. Expect frozen-in-time drone sculptures and mysteriously comforting dream-like simulations.
