Fabianโs mother, a human scholar, once traveled with the southern caravans that crisscross the Merchant Colonies and southwestern Caedian Mountain Range. Whether by love or chance, she bore a half-elven sonโFabian. His elven father remains a mystery, leaving Fabian to be raised by his motherโs practical wisdom and an ever-changing caravan community.
During one fateful expedition, young Fabian wandered off into the dense mountain forests at the western edge of the Caedian Mountain range. Separated from the caravan for over a decade, he supposedly found refuge with reclusive โmonksโ who lived in sequestered glades. Among them were orbweaver monkeys, revered as sacred guardians of memory and introspection. Fabianโs mentors taught him the gentle, restorative techniques that define the Way of Mercy, and the orbweaver primates became his spiritual totemsโsymbols of the cyclical nature of life, death, and vengeance.

Fabianโs mother eventually died under mysterious circumstances connected to her arcane pursuitsโperhaps, as rumor suggests, due to a failed experiment or unscrupulous arrangement involving Professor Ethel at the Imperial College of Arcane Studies. Wracked by grief, Fabian left the reclusive monks to seek answers and, if need be, revenge.
He soon discovered that traveling alone in the harsh southwestern passes required both cunning and coin. Through happenstance, he avenged a local forest creature poached by an outlaw, catching the eye of Janella Hawkspring, leader of the Talon Company. Impressed with Fabianโs compassion and lethal precision, she recruited him into the huntersโ guild. There, Fabian shaped his monastic self-discipline into a tool for subduing or executing high-value targetsโthough, in line with his vow of mercy, he often strove to capture rather than kill. Additionally, despite his vow of mercy, Fabian recognized that punishing evildoers could finance forest conservationโand spread the โwealthโ of balance (literally, as he tosses the majority of his bounty gold into nature).

While rummaging through his late motherโs journals, Fabian discovered repeated references to Professor Ethel, who had once been her esteemed mentor at the Imperial Academy. These notes hinted at Ethelโs shadowy secrets and implied he might have manipulated, abandoned or sabotaged his brightest students. Convinced Ethelโs involvement directly (or indirectly) hastened his motherโs demise, Fabian now sees the professor as a key to unraveling her fateโand avenging her if needed.

Fabianโs vow to protect all living creatures is further tested by the revelation that these adventurers slayed an orbweaver monkey off the coast of Andaluna some time ago. Whether it was an accident or purposeful, Fabianโs reverence for the orbweavers stokes an immediate sense of caution, moral tension, or even righteous anger.
