When faced with a decision, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
Do we wonder and worry about what people may think and say, or do we consider what God will think and what He has said?
Are we doing what we think will bring us profit or pleasure, or what will honor and please our Savior?
So many times, our choices are not based on the principles and precepts of the Word of God, but on our fear of others and desire to please them.
When we base our decisions on social acceptance rather than on scriptural authority, we are sure to err.
This is true in every area of our lives - big and small. Where we go, what we say (or refuse to say), how we dress, what we listen to, who our friends are…the list could go on and on, but each choice matters.
The chief criteria for every Christian in every choice should be glorifying and pleasing the Lord (I Cor. 10:31).
What a difference it would make in our homes, our churches, and our world, if we would base every decision on pleasing Christ - not pleasing ourselves, not pleasing others, just pleasing Him.
“That I may please You, who gave Your life for me,
That I may please You, a faithful soldier be.
Make this my one desire, the aim that I pursue,
In everything I think, and say, and do,
That I may please You.”
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.”
Proverbs 29:25
“And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.”
1 Samuel 15:24
“For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world...”
2 Timothy 4:10a
“Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.”
1 John 3:13
I Cor. 6:20; Rom. 15:6; Ps. 19:14
