Trained as a traditional animator, Derek is a concept artist and illustrator working in the game development field. Over the years, he has worked on projects for companies like Microsoft and Nintendo, as well as several smaller start-ups and independent studios.

His personal project, Entartete Kunst, or the EK Series, was undertaken to get back to his creative roots. This project has been translated into numerous other forms, including book/magazine cover art, limited edition art prints, and a line of resin model kits, to name a few.
