DHVSU - Mexico Campus's Women in Language and Literature Seminar, aims to teach students about the inclusion of women and feminism in language and literature. Immersing students in several literary works where women are stereotyped and recognizing female figures paved the way for feminism in literature. The seminar also aims to break the old stereotypes against women in literature.

The event was administered by BSED students and took place at the first floor of the campus library, March 12, 2025.

Discussions explored the portrayal of women in classic works like Ibong Adarna, Florante at Laura, and Noli Me Tangere, contrasting traditional damsel-in-distress roles with strong, independent female figures.

Key topics included the challenges women encounter in the literary world, such as limited access to education, censorship, and gender-based discrimination, and how they continue to break barriers. The event honored both Filipino and international women writers who have paved the way for future generations, inspiring change through their words.

With a call to amplify women’s voices, the seminar underscored the power of literature in shaping perspectives, overcoming obstacles, and driving social progress. The message was clear: women’s words have the power to inspire, transform, and build a more inclusive future.

News | PRC at DMC: An honor to be a donor

DMC builds bridges with the Philippine Red Cross as they join forces to facilitate blood letting activity at DHVSU Mexico Campus, March 21, 2025.

Mrs. Lorelei P. Datu, DMC Nurse, assisted the PRC staff by helping them in the blood donation activity while also monitoring students who volunteered to be a donor. Moreover, employees from various non-teaching staff, teaching staff, and students of the school actively participated in the blood donating activity.

According to Nurse Datu, our country is facing a constant shortage of blood, leaving countless individuals in need especially for those who are battling chronic illnesses, undergoing emergency surgeries, or even recovering from accidents. Every drop of blood donated can help a lot of people who are in need too. She also encourages students to make blood donation a habit, whether it is every three months, six months, or even just once a year—every drop counts.

Every drop of blood will spark countless hope and courage and the DMC made sure that Mexicanos are more than ready to be the agents of hope and catalyst of courage.

Feature | HIV Awareness Program: Advocate, Inform, Cut the Stigma

Student leaders of Don Honorio Ventura State University - Mexico Campus attend the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Awareness Program held March 14, 2025, at the campus Library, Ground floor.

Organized by DHVSU - Mexico Campus in partnership with Pampanga Medical Society and Provincial Health Office of Pampanga, Office of Student Welfare and Formation, Regional Health Unit (RHU) 2 Mexico Pampanga, the seminar aims to inform and empower the youth about the importance of HIV awareness, how it is being transmitted, its prevention and the treatment of the infection. Moreover, student leaders were also encouraged to take their screening tests for free.

Opening the program, Dra. Vicky P. Vital, Mexico Campus director quoted that learning about HIV "It is not just being aware of it, you should internalize what you will learn and know that you are healthy".

Dr. Reynaldo S. Alipio, DHVSU's university physician, also gave his assurance that after getting screened and tested, "privacy is being maintained and prioritized".

Dra. Maria Karen Sta. Maria, MD, the guest speaker, discussed Primary Prevention Services, addressing concerns and misconceptions about HIV, encouraging the use of safe practices, risks and prevention especially to those who are sexually active individuals. Dra. Sta. Maria also added that "Education can take you to places. We must protect ourselves from any form of harm".

For the closing remarks, Sir Mark Jameson Perez, Academic Chairperson, DHVSU Mexico Campus, said that we can give emotional support and be equipped with broader understanding. "We should share this initiative to our family, friends and colleagues to save not just us but also other people's lives".

During the program, the Pampanga Medical Society administered HIV testing and counseling students who are willing to be screened using test kits.

Having no cure for this illness, early detection and treatment plays a vital role in preventing the spread of the infection. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) treatment helps individuals with HIV to live healthy and long lives and reduce the risk of transmission.

Feature | I am a Woman, and I can do it; Gender does not limit people's abilities

The Philippines celebrates National Women’s Month with activities and initiatives spanning the entire month of March. This observance is deeply rooted in the global commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD).

It's March again, and it is Women's Month. As days and months passed by, we need to encourage people, especially women, with their incredible achievements and unwavering spirit around the world. Mexicanos, let's celebrate this month with a full smile and confidence, especially since we need to focus not just on acknowledging the step and progress of our campus in being a Gender and Development Hall of Famer, but also on ensuring that every voice and experience is heard and known. In this way, we can continue to inspire other people, not only our fellow Mexicanos.

Through time, the voices of people are not just echoing, but they are growing louder, demanding equality, freedom, and justice from the rusty chains of discrimination and inequality of our society. Women could take a bright path in every decision and choice that they want to make because women are capable of being great innovators, leaders, and change-makers of our society. So, Mexicanos, we need to be together to ensure that we can build a brighter future for ourselves and for future generations.

Empowerment is not only about focusing on achieving individual success, but also about lifting and assisting each other to success. Showing support and assisting other people is not only focusing on one gender but on all people surrounding you. It might be men, women, or anybody, but always remember, fellow Mexicanos, we need to help and guide each other, especially those who need guidance and help. Not just to create a good school environment, but to build and establish a good quality of fellowship, not just on the gender.

My fellow Mexicanos, always remember that the gender of a person does not limit his/her abilities.

Sa pagsali ng mga Honorians, ipinapakita nila ang kanilang pangakong "WE Vow to End VAW" at ang paniniwalang "WE Can Be EquALL."

Kaya’t halina at makisayaw!

The Juanas of DHVSU Mexico Campus now have access to a necessity that every woman needs—free menstrual pads. These are placed in safe and accessible areas within the campus, ensuring that female students can get them easily whenever needed.

This initiative became one of the highlights of the second Purple Friday, celebrated as part of National Women’s Month. It aligns with the ongoing efforts to recognize and support women, not just in their achievements but also in their everyday struggles.

More than just providing free pads, this initiative acknowledges the reality of menstruation—a natural process that every woman experiences. It serves as a reminder of how strong women are in embracing their womanhood despite the challenges they face daily.
