BEIRUT: A Tiny City Guide

Legend has it that Beirut was rebuilt from the ashes seven times. One of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, it wears its history openly, interweaving Roman ruins, Ottoman-era houses, Belle Époque mansions, and Brutalist landmarks—a reminder that the city has never stopped absorbing influence, transforming it, and making it its own.

After decades marked by upheaval, Beirut is once again entering a period of cultural resurgence: historic buildings are finding second lives as hotels, restaurants, and cultural spaces, while major design events like We Design Beirut are championing the city’s creative talent. The spirit is one of defiant resilience, celebrating heritage while forging new narratives in hospitality, cuisine, and contemporary culture. Which is why now is a particularly compelling moment to experience Beirut and our Tiny City Guide is here to help you navigate it.

Expect a spectrum of places chosen for their atmosphere, vision, and sense of place: from a newly opened craft-rich hotel in the upscale Saifi quarter and an art-filled Ottoman-style boutique hotel in bohemian Gemmayze, to a traditional guesthouse in the mountains; from creative Lebanese cuisine and beloved street food institutions to French, Armenian, and Thai restaurants; and from rooftop cocktail lounges and hi-fi listening bars, through a hidden dance floor inside a Japanese deli, to an abandoned factory reborn as an electronic music temple—all embodying Beirut’s capacity to turn adversity into creativity, and hardship into expression.

Beirut is not merely returning to form, it is reinventing itself. Discover it through our curated guide. Special thanks to Nour Najem and Tamara Jabi for generously acting as our local insiders.
