All systems go in Jozi, Safety “dry run” completed ahead of G20 summit

Johannesburg authorities today, carried out a full-scale safety exercise in preparation for the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit, set for 22–23 November in the city.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), the South African Police Service (SAPS), Gauteng Traffic Police, and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) joined forces in a coordinated “dry run” to test emergency protocols and traffic management strategies.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., several major roads including the N1, M1, N12, and key urban arteries like Grayston Drive, Nasrec Road, and Winnie Mandela Drive were temporarily closed to simulate the high-security environment expected during the summit.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the exercise enabled law enforcement agencies to evaluate their response capabilities under real-life conditions, while also refining plans to maintain regular policing in unaffected areas of the city.

The RTMC issued a media advisory ahead of the operation, asking motorists to plan ahead, use alternative routes, and allow additional travel time. After the run, all affected roads were reopened.

City officials framed the exercise as part of a broader readiness drive. The Gauteng Community Safety Department has established a special task group to oversee security preparations for the summit, including CCTV deployments in key precincts. Meanwhile, the Johannesburg Roads Agency has fast-tracked infrastructure upgrades resurfacing roads, repairing potholes, and upgrading lighting especially on critical corridors leading to Nasrec, the summit venue.

As the countdown to the summit continues, authorities say this joint run marks a significant milestone, demonstrating the city’s preparedness to host world leaders and reassuring residents that safety, traffic flow, and security will be closely managed.

Zimbabwean opposition leader Job Sikhala arrested in South Africa over explosives

Zimbabwean opposition figure Job Sikhala was arrested in Pretoria on Thursday night after South African police allegedly found explosives in his car. Sikhala and his 78-year-old companion, Alexander Thema, were stopped on the N14 highway and reportedly found with 26 blasting cartridges and 15 fuse connectors.

They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of illegal possession of explosives.

Sikhala, a former Citizens Coalition for Change MP and vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been arrested over 60 times. His associates claim the explosives were planted, describing the incident as a “political setup” aimed at silencing him.

The arrest follows months of alleged targeting, including a bombing of his home in August and a disrupted book launch in July. Authorities in both countries have yet to comment, as rights groups call for transparency in the case.

Internal report recommends suspension for MK party chief whip

Colleen Makhubele, the newly appointed chief whip of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in Parliament, is under intense internal scrutiny following allegations of misconduct and a failed intelligence vetting process.

Party insiders are reportedly calling for her suspension pending further investigation, according to IOL.

An internal MK governance report, seen by IOL but not yet formally tabled, details several allegations against Makhubele. These include failing the security vetting required for Parliament’s Intelligence Portfolio Committee, allegedly lobbying for her husband’s appointment to a party position, attempting to secure a backdated service-level agreement with a company linked to her husband, and defying the party’s deputy president, Judge John Hlophe.

The conflict has intensified factional divisions within the party. Attempts to mediate between Makhubele and Hlophe reportedly failed, with insiders describing the situation as “open warfare.” Senior figures have called on former president Jacob Zuma, the party leader, to intervene, citing a leadership vacuum that has left internal battles unchecked.

Efforts to reach Makhubele for comment were unsuccessful. Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said he was unaware of any Intelligence Committee vetting involving her.

Makhubele took over as chief whip in May 2025 from Mzwanele Manyi. This latest crisis adds to a series of internal conflicts that have plagued the young party since its formation less than two years ago.

DJ Zinhle reveals she’s never been single

DJ Zinhle has left fans buzzing after revealing that she has never been single.

The admission came in a TikTok video posted on October 26, where Zinhle was gushing about her husband, Bongani "Mörda" Mohosana, sharing that he loves it when she does her own makeup, calling her “the prettiest.”

The light-hearted comment sparked a broader reflection from Zinhle, who joked, “Then I just started thinking about how I would never call as a single person. I don’t think I’ve ever been single, guys.”

Zinhle’s revelation comes amid her high-profile personal life. She previously had a long-term relationship with the late rapper AKA (Kiernan Forbes), with whom she shares daughter Kairo Forbes.

She began dating Murdah Bongz in June 2021, married him in 2022, and they have a daughter, Asante Mohosana.

While her current marriage has occasionally been the subject of gossip and unverified cheating allegations online, Zinhle’s fans continue to follow her personal journey closely, responding with curiosity, admiration, and a touch of envy.
