I am excited about this opportunity to share the look and the sound, of the Van Gelder Recording Studio with a worldwide audience in the very first "Live from Van Gelder Studio Virtual Concert" for the Hank Mobley 90th year Tribute. I was here, with Rudy, when a tourist from overseas arrived. He had not only come to the U.S. just to see the building where so many of his favorite albums were created, but he had also walked from the George Washington Bridge, almost 4 miles. We happened to see him in the driveway, and we went out to see what he wanted. Rudy invited him into the studio and showed him around the magnificent live room. And offered him a glass of water. Rudy loved his fans.

Today we remember the great Bobby Timmons (December 19, 1935 – March 1, 1974). A beloved pianist with one of the most easily recognizable styles, Bobby Timmons is responsible not only for bringing his unique gospel-tinged voice to the piano, but also for his funky compositional masterpieces that have become jazz standards, like Moanin’ and This Here. We love you Bobby!
