I know y’all are probably sick of me and these recap photos… but I have more for your timeline!

Now - elephant in the room. It is wildly dystopian to be buying into the capitalist fanfare of the Met Gala, its elitism and opulence, esp given the state of our own country and the world at large (looking at you, Falest.ine. 💛). However, from an anthropological perspective, this year’s theme is incredibly apropos and is certainly cause celebre. To revere the ways in which Black folks have manifested survival and thriving, as expressed through fashion - blending in, standing out, counterculture and culture-making, this is a moment to honor being .

Now, y’all know I love a good function… And as messy and chaotic as the world currently is, we also need to make space for the parts of it worth saving. And in THAT spirit, The homies and I are hosting a Met Gala Watch Party, Monday, May 5th - this year celebrating Black Tailoring artistry in the late 19th through 20th centuries.

This year’s theme, SUPERFINE: TAILORING BLACK STYLE aka Black dandies is gonna be one for the books. We’ll be watching all the looks cross the red carpet at The Met, clocking the best (and the worst) dressed with your hosts/remote correspondents: Tammy () et moi! We’ll be joined by providing the musical vibes,
special surprise guests, and will feature some of YOUR looks!

The dress code is OPTIONAL, but it’s so much more fun when you’re dressed to the nines. If you’re down to play, DRESS TO IMPRESS - come in your best interpretation of the Met Gala theme, ‘Black Dandyism.’ We’ll be at the FABULOUS as the cherry on top.

Doyenne definition: a woman who is the most respected or prominent person in a particular field. In 2015, created , a vinyl dance party featuring all women disc jockeys, to highlight their skills on the decks while creating dance floor bliss.

On March 23, 2025, this mission continues as DJ Monday Blue presents the Doyennes of Disc Women’s History Month Panel + Party at The Francis Kite Club !

Panelists include ( ), (), Alexandria Sadé .daze () and Monday Blue in conversation avec moi about their experiences building successful events as well as creating and nurturing community.

Vinyl vibes will be provided before and after the panel by Doyennes faves and along with Monday Blue. Special guest, poet Tangie Mitchell .jolie ( fellow), accompanied by , will read an original piece in honor of the occasion.

As you may remember, I have the esteemed honor of being on the Board of Directors for an incredible youth organization called The Octavia Project - inspired by the work and life of the tremendous, ever prescient Octavia Butler.
