I had a birthday pt.2!

Short version: I was surrounded by humans who love me and it is always a pleasure to be reminded of love. I am grateful.

We did an escape room! I found vintage Manolos in my size! We laughed! We sang! We hookah’d! We birthday pre-gamed in Philly with (and his Stevie Wonder tribute party) on a boat! We had quite the time.

I feel like say this everytime I post something joyful, most likely as a balm to soothe my guilt for experiencing goodness while the world is on fire… BUT. Find you some sunshine in all the darkness. Make the liberation work mean something.

I had a birthday! pt. 1

I wanted somethig lowkey, and wholesome, on a budget, and with lovely humans, and this year’s celebrations absolutely exceeding all expectations.

I sprained my ankle at a ninja gym! I went on the Wonder Wheel for the first time (FINALLY)! We did an outdoor escape room! We got caught in torrential downpour! We ate crab legs! So much joy.

Please come live vicariously in all the fantastic shenanigans.

Now - elephant in the room. It is wildly dystopian to be buying into the capitalist fanfare of the Met Gala, its elitism and opulence, esp given the state of our own country and the world at large (looking at you, Falest.ine. 💛). However, from an anthropological perspective, this year’s theme is incredibly apropos and is certainly cause celebre. To revere the ways in which Black folks have manifested survival and thriving, as expressed through fashion - blending in, standing out, counterculture and culture-making, this is a moment to honor being .
