Here is Gary’s SALUTE 52 preparation for the Demonstration Game 'The Best Army in Europe - The Battle of Piramsens 1793'. He is currently painting the last unit of the Prussian army, the Wolffradt Husaren #6, using Chariot Miniatures from Magister Militum.

"In 1793 the Prussian Army was considered the best in Europe. During the summer, the Armée de la Moselle held the line of the river Schwarzbach centred on the town of Zweibrücken, 46 miles west of the R.Rhine. Facing them was the Prussian Armee am Rhein, commanded by the Prussian king. The Duke of Brunswick’s II Corps was based in the former garrison town of Pirmasens, covering Kaiserslautern.

Schauenburg, the new commander of the Moselle & the représentants du peuple, decided to send the Corps des Vosges to attack Pirmasens indirectly from the north. At 10:30 p.m. the French marched from their Hornbach camp, 10½ miles west of Pirmasens. The French hoped to surprise the Prussians by this indirect approach, but Brunswick had been warned the day before, and had his troops prepared for immediate action. At 9:00 a.m. Moreaux reached Fehrbach two miles north-northeast of Pirmasens. With only 8,000 men the Prussians routed the 12,000 strong French corps."

A lovely bit of history from Caseshot Publishing Ltd and you can come and see this game at Stand GK10!
