New installment in the Music Futures interview series now up on T&E!
Desculonización is a project by Jenny Granado AKA kebra AKA Maldita Geni Thalia, visual artist, performer, and DJ originary of Uruana, Brazil and based off Mexico City. Desculonización takes many shapes and forms: perreo/twerk classes, DJ school without mansplaining, courses of readings of the body, platform that promotes latin rhythms like baile funk, performances, parties, and others yet to be invented. All of these are anchored on a decolonial, transfeminist and antiracist horizon that seeks to center the body and its potential found through dance. Check out the interview for a detailed chat!
Music Futures is a series that centers individuals, projects, and communities focused on uprooting capitalism and colonialism from music by working to improve the material conditions of workers of the industry and fans. By learning from projects created by people of the global majority (BIPOC), women, q***r and disability communities, we can conceive of better futures that are genuinely diverse and inclusive.
